Rajasthan Royals (RR) management might be nervous at the moment. Their captain, Sanju Samson, has undergone finger surgery on his right hand just 38 days before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 kicks off. Samson was hit on his right hand in Mumbai on February 2 and hadn’t come out to keep the wickets in the second innings due to the blow.
Sanju Samson undergoes finger surgery on his right hand
Jofra Archer had hit Samson on his index finger. He had received treatment on the ground and continued to bat for the next couple of minutes before getting dismissed by Mark Wood. Dhruv Jurel came out with the gloves, but one thought it might be a precautionary measure. However, it has turned out that Samson had suffered a hefty blow.
He has undergone surgery, and now he faces a race against the clock. March 21 will be when the tournament opener will be played. But, since the IPL 2025 full schedule isn’t out yet, we don’t know when Rajasthan Royals will play their first fixture of the 18th edition of the IPL. So, Samson has around 40 days to recover. There might be a chance that he won’t attend RR’s pre-season training session as well.

Rajasthan Royals hope for Samson’s quick recovery
Samson has been incredible for RR, both as a batter and captain. He took them to the knockouts in the IPL 2024, but they were eliminated after losing in the Playoff 2 to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. There has been a reshuffle, with teams allowed to retain not more than six players. If RR wants to lift their second IPL title, they will want Samson to be completely fit for the IPL 2025 season.
