Commonwealth Games 2022

Dates for CWG 2022

The Commonwealth Games 2022 is held every four years with Commonwealth Nations competing in the multi-sport event. It is one of the most prestigious competitions and the XXII Commonwealth Games is scheduled at Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.  

Nations and athletes

More than 5000 athletes from different corners of the globe are going to compete in Birmingham. This edition of the CWG will witness the participation of 72 nations

Number of events

Athletes are going to compete across 20 sports, including athletics, badminton, hockey, boxing, netball, squash among others. However, there are some events, which are going to make its Commonwealth debut as well. It includes women’s cricket, basketball 3×3, wheelchair basketball and para table tennis.

CWG 2022 motto and vision

The motto for the Birmingham Games 2022 is ‘Games for Everyone. The vision of the CWG 2022 is to bring people together, improve health and also act as a catalyst for change. More importantly, the hosts want to deliver unforgettable Games.

Successful nations

Australia is the most successful nation in terms of medals. They have collected an impressive haul of 932 golds while England have amassed 714 in CWG. Canada and India have been decent too, with 484 and 181 gold.

What happened in the last CWG at Gold Coast?

Australia came up with a dominating show with 80 gold, 59 silver and 59 bronze to collect a total of 198 medals at home.
