Former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has the most player of the series or man of the series awards in Test cricket. In a career that spanned 18 years, Muralidharan bagged 11 man of the series awards from 133 matches and 61 series played.
Another off-spinner, also from the Asian subcontinent, Ravichandran Ashwin, is perched second on the list. Team India’s most successful off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, has bagged 10 player of the series awards in his 12-year career already. The 2023 Border Gavaskar Series at home was the 10th occasion on which he won the player of the series award in Test cricket. With this, he has overtaken the legendary all-rounder from South Africa, Jacques Kallis, who also bagged nine player of the series awards from 166 matches, the most by a batter in red-ball cricket. At the fourth spot, there are three legendary cricketers in the form of former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan, former New Zealand all-rounder Sir Richard Hadlee, and the late Australian great Shane Warne. All three former cricketers have eight awards to their names. The following is the list of players who won the most “Man of the Series” awards in their test career.
