Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, established in 1992, replaced Pindi Club Ground as an international venue. It is home to Islamabad United and the Northern cricket team. Before its construction, Rawalpindi Club Cricket Ground hosted international matches, including a Test against New Zealand in 1965.
The stadium gained prominence during the 1995-96 Cricket World Cup and became Pakistan’s 14th Test ground. Floodlights were added in 2001 ahead of the Australian tour. Located just 20 minutes from Islamabad, it is the only international cricket stadium in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
The stadium is also the home ground and debut venue for Shoaib Akhtar, the world’s fastest bowler. In the 2004 ODI series, Sachin Tendulkar scored a remarkable 141 against Pakistan here.
After a renovation, the venue hosted its first Test match in 15 years in December 2019, marking the return of international cricket to Rawalpindi.
