AUS vs SL, T20 World Cup 2026: Pathum Nissanka hit the first century of this World Cup to power Sri Lanka to the Super 8 with an eight-wicket win over Australia. Nissanka carried his bat with an unbeaten 100 off 52 to chase down 182 runs at Pallekele, the highest at the venue. Kusal Mendis was the other hero as he scored his third consecutive fifty, adding a 97-run stand with Nissanka. In the end, Sri Lanka chased the target down in 18 overs.

Australia were bowled out for 181, despite scoring 104/0 in 8.2 overs. Sri Lanka made a fine comeback with Dushan Hemantha leading the charge with 3/37. Head (56) and Marsh (54) provided a solid start with a 104-run opening but then on, it was a slide. Sri Lanka went a bowler down with Matheesha Pathirana suffering an injury and walking off in his first over with an injury in the first over after they opted to bowl in Pallekele. Australia made three changes to their Playing XI but left Steve Smith out as Mitchell Marsh returned from an injury scare.

England have sealed their spot in the Super 8 with another nervy win over Italy. Despite posting 202/7, thanks to a whirlwind 53-run knock off 22 deliveries from Will Jacks, Italy bounced back with the bat. Ben Manenti (60 off 25) and Grant Stewart (45 off 23) kept Italy at bay until 18th over. But Sam Curran bowled an exceptional 19th over to seal the win for England.

Their win helped South Africa seal their spot in the Super 8 with 6 points. While Afghanistan stayed alive in the Super 8 race, fate won’t be in their hands. If New Zealand beat Canada, Afghanistan will be knocked out. With the loss, the UAE were officially eliminated.
