Another week of IPL 2025 has passed, and this week was more of a comeback fest for many teams and players. From 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi making his IPL debut to India’s prominent batsman Rohit Sharma finally scoring a half-century, let’s look at the top events and stories from the week.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s historic debut
Rajasthan Royals player Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest IPL debutant at the age of 14. He made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals in the match against Lucknow Super Giants, where he opened the innings. What made it even more special was when he smashed a six over the fence on his first ever ball in the IPL. He scored a fiery 34 off 20 balls and stitched an 85-run opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
A comeback for Yuzvendra Chahal
After a rough patch, Yuzvendra Chahal showed why he is one of the top bowlers in the IPL by making a strong comeback. Despite being bought for 18 crore in IPL 2025, his initial performance didn’t promise much, as he managed to take only 2 wickets in the first five matches. However, against KKR, he proved to be a match-winner by taking four wickets, and in the following match against RCB, he also took two wickets.
RCB and MI complete revenge
It was a week of revenge for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. Initially, on 18th April, Punjab Kings travelled to Chinnaswamy Stadium and defeated RCB in a low-scoring thriller. However, RCB bounced back against Punjab Kings just 48 hours later, defeating them in Mullanpur to take revenge.
Similarly, Mumbai Indians won the IPL’s El Clasico against Chennai Super Kings. Both teams met in the IPL for the second time this season. In the first encounter, Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians at Chepauk, Chennai. Later, Mumbai Indians secured a comprehensive 9-wicket victory against their rivals.
Finally, hitman Rohit Sharma is back to form
One of India’s top batsmen and premier cricket players, Rohit Sharma, has finally returned to form after a tough start in IPL 2025, where he scored less than 30 runs in every match. His return to form came when he scored a half-century against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in the last match on Sunday. In the El Clasico, he scored 76 runs and led his team to victory, remaining not out.
First super over
IPL 2025 featured its first super over in a match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. Both teams managed to score 188 runs in 20 overs, leading to a super over where Rajasthan Royals batted first and lost both their wickets for 11 runs, setting a target of 12, which Delhi easily chased in 4 balls.
A low scoring thriller in Mullanpur
A match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders took place in Mullanpur and turned into an exciting low-scoring thriller on a batting pitch. Punjab Kings batted first and scored 101 runs before getting all out in 16 overs. Everyone thought Punjab batted poorly and would lose the match.
However, the Punjab Kings’ bowlers staged a brilliant comeback, and Kolkata Knight Riders faltered badly, getting all out for 95 runs in 15.1 overs. It was a low-score thriller, and it’s the lowest total ever defended by any team in IPL history.
