What was that? How did he do that? Where did that come from? All of us were left mesmerised and questioned our existence when a certain 14-year-old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, walloped Shardul Thakur for a hammering six inside-out. As if playing at this tender age in the IPL is not enough, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) teenager announced his prodigious talent with aplomb.
Awestrucking 34 by Suryavanshi
Replacing captain Sanju Samson was the least of the concerns for Suryavanshi, who played with superb attitude and mettle. In his debut game, he left everyone awestruck, hitting two international pacers, Thakur and Avesh Khan, for handsome sixes. Typical T20 batting – remove the front leg and murder a whack down the ground. When the spin came on, he looked comfortable, too.
Even LSG’s best bowler of the season, Digvesh Rathi, wasn’t spared. He cleared the 70m square boundary with ease, an extreme rarity for a teenager. Suryavanshi stitched a perhaps match-winning opening stand of 85 runs with fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Nevertheless, Suryavanshi’s brief stay of 20 balls came to an end with a loopy off-spin by Aiden Markram and some fast bit of stumping by Rishabh Pant.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is rewriting the record books. The Bihar sensation made waves at the IPL 2025 auction, becoming the youngest player to snag a deal with the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping INR 1.1 crore. But this young gun’s credentials weren’t built overnight. Suryavanshi’s bat has been sizzling, with a 58-ball ton against Australia U-19 and a stellar 176 runs at 44 in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup 2024. And let’s not forget his jaw-dropping 332* in the Randhir Verma Tournament – a triple century that screams superstar!
Well, if football has Lamine Yamal and tennis had Martina Hingis, well, cricket now has its own Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Think about it. He’s one-third of MS Dhoni’s age – a 29-year difference! If Suryavanshi hones his skills, keeps himself fit & develops into a first-team batter, who knows? He broke all kinds of records there are to be broken! Simply because he has immeasurable time on his side!
