Jasprit Bumrah is down again. The ace pacer has sustained a knee injury after playing just 2 matches for India. The 32-year-old had returned to the blue jersey after skipping the one-off Afghanistan Test and two T20I series. Bumrah looked at his best when he turned up for the ODIs, rocking speeds as high as 145.
His accuracy and zip off the surface were back after he played the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season despite a niggle. However, injury woes have returned, not just for Bumrah but also for India. Even before the United Kingdom (UK) tour commenced on June 26, India had lost a few players.
“Jasprit Bumrah had an impact injury on his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff. He was not available for selection for the third ODI due to reactive swelling in his left knee,” the BCCI said on Bumrah.
India’s injury woes on UK tour
India’s fast-bowling all-rounders, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Hardik Pandya, were ruled out of the tour due to injuries. The former has a quadriceps injury while the latter has a leg strain. Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana suffered hamstring injuries during the England T20I series.
Washington Sundar was ruled out midway through the Cardiff ODI with a hamstring injury. Now, Bumrah is the latest to join the list. He misses the India vs England 3rd ODI at Lord’s due to a knee injury. The fast bowler sustained the blow while fielding and misses the game due to reactive swelling on his left knee.
Counting Pandya and Reddy, India has lost 6 players during the 10-match tour. It’s one of the reasons why India lost the T20I series to England 0-4 and might lose the ODI series 1-2.
