Gautam Gambhir loses yet another series for Team India, fail to chase down 388

There you go. The formalities end now. India have lost by 27 runs now as India score only 360. They looked like the likely winners when Rohit and Virat were batting together, but Sam Curran's 4 wickets have changed it for the hosts. England win 2-1.

Just an over remains now. This has been a truly appalling tour for Team India, where they could not even win the ODI series, where they had all their senior pros as well. What do we see after this now?

Archer starts his fresh spell and KL Rahul gets a couple of boundaries here. Third ball he is out bowled, the slope has worked in England's favour. That is it.

Sam Curran has picked up his third wicket as this time Virat Kohli perishes. That is it. He scores 74 from 60, tries to take the aerial route, but the ball does not have enough speed on it. Indian hopes are dashed.

Another very slow delivery by Curran and Ishan Kishan has to go back to the hut. He manages to score only 14 from 12. Doesn't get enough bat on the ball, as Rehan Ahmed takes a good catch. And there comes up another wicket. He tries to go on the off side, Rehan takes an excellet catch this time around. India struggling now.

Virat dances down the track and he hits Jacks for a massive six over his head. That is 50 for the man. The strike rate is just a little over 100. But well done, and he needs to stay there till the end. And he follows that up with another six. 17 from the over.

Rohit slog sweeps Bethell for a six, and then tries to repeat the same shot, very next delivery. But this time he runs out of luck and is clean bowled for 138. Was this his last international appearance? Suspense remains.

Suddenly the runs seem to have dried up a bit. England are bowling well in this passage of play as they are stringing a few dots together. And Rohit ends the over with a boundary.

Kohli seems to be struggling a bit; oh and we say this, he has cleaned Bethell for a four through mid wicket. He needs a lot more of those. Rohit looks to be in pain still. All the electrolytes will take some time to show effect.

Indian batters should look to go for the shots now. They have a number of batters to follow. If they play a few dots, the pressure will only mount. Curran bowling a lot of slower ones. Meanwhile Rohit seems to be limping.

Curran has been mixing his speeds well. There is a considerable drop of 50 kmph in some of his deliveries, that makes it extremely difficult to get away. But India cannot relax at any stage. And Virat is living dangerously here. Another expensive over comes to an end. India 227-1 in 34 overs.

Rohit Sharma now has the most ODI centuries in England by a visiting player. He surpasses Sachin Tendulkar with his 8th ODI ton in England.

Rohit Sharma hits his 34th ODI century, first of 2026, eighth in England. India needed their former captain to stand up and deliver today. And he has done it with an 84-ball century. He is the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord's.

Rohit Sharma moves to 90s with two sixes in a row against Josh Tonue and the Lord's crowd is pumped up.

Virat Kohli joins Rohit Sharma on the crease. This is their 400th match together. And if India are to chase down a 388-run target, these two need to score a century each.

India have lost their captain Shubman Gill for 77, trying to scoop Adil Rashid. He missed the delivery and it hit his thigh pad. He took the review but to no avail. He was trapped leg before. Gill did not expect the ball to keep straight. He was expecting the delivery to turn, but it did not. India's 147-run opening stand is broken.

Shubman Gill had to retire hurt on 80 in the 1st ODI with cramps. He did not come to the field after that. Today, he is once again down with cramps, with the physio coming in to check. Gill is on 74 off 79.

Rohit Sharma hits his 2nd half-century of 2026, his 63rd in this format. And it has come at the right moment, when there are reports about his retirement.

20 overs gone and India are 109/0. Shubman Gill has most of the deliveries so far, scoring 65 off 75. Rohit Sharma has only faced 45 deliveries, scoring 42. With 30 overs still to go, India need 279 runs more at nearly 10 runs per over.

Shubman Gill gets another half-century to continue his excellent ODI run of form in 2026. He is averaging over 100 this year, including five fifties and a century in 8 innings.

Another good over for India, and Shubman Gill moves closer to his half-century, as he hits Josh Tongue for a four through the covers.

After 49/0 in 10 overs, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma bring up a 50-run stand in the 11th over. They have the start, and now, they need to unleash a few shots to keep the asking rate down. It's currently at over 8.

Rohit Sharma finally begins to break the shackles. He takes on Josh Tongue for two boundaries against short ball. Then, he smashed another short ball for a six.

Rohit Sharma gets his first boundary, but not a confident one. In fact, he was fortunate. He tried to come down the track to take Gus Atkinson on. But instead, he got an edge that flew over the second slip for a four.

After five overs, India are 17/0. Shubman Gill has played 25 deliveries, scoring 14. Rohit Sharma has faced only 5 balls so far.

India have their first boundary after 13 deliveries, as Shubman Gill drives a full delivery by Jofra Archer through the extra cover for a four.

India will need a record chase to go close to this target. India's highest successful run chase is 360 against Australia. But to do that, India need a good start from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. While Gill is in good form, Rohit has been struggling. Today is the day. He can't just sit back and chew up deliveries like the first two ODIs.

Prince Yadav comes on for the last over here. The idea would be to not let England score 400. Add two more boundaries to the score in this over. Okay, and the third one comes too. Let us just already concede, India is not winning this match from this stage. And in the end England get 387/3 in 50 overs.

Buttler has added another dimension to this batting. He has come and smacked 34 from 10 only hitting 3 sixes and as many fours. This has been a stupendous effort by all the English batters.

The ball comes back in slightly as Harry Brook looks for the glory shot. Instead he is caught by Virat Kohli in the deep and India get their third wicket now. It is too late now, and England look set for 350-360.

Root is playing his best in ODI cricket right now. He brings up yet another 50 in the series, is yet to be dismissed by India. He has just shown that he can uplift England and make them a strong ODI team now.

And finally Ben Duckett has been dismissed. He plays one back straight to the bowler -- Prince Yadav, and is out for 141 from 135 deliveries. This happens to be the 2nd highest ODI score for Eng vs India.

KL Rahul steps over the boundary. What is even happening today. Duckett cuts one over point for a six... Rahul gets into position at the boundary, takes a clean catch, but could not maintain balance and falls out of the boundary. First six for Duckett.

Axar Patel completes his quota with unimpressive figures of 0/61. He looked flat today. This squad clearly seems like the one, where all is not well. These players need constant backing by the management. But the good ones are being left out -- the wicket-taking ones.

Arshdeep Singh comes back into the attack now. He is the senior most bowler in this attack and needs to come up with something special. So far, none of the bowlers have gone for too many runs, but not getting wickets is the issue.

The Indian pacers have failed to use the slope of the Lord's well. It is way too easy at the moment for Root and Duckett as the 50 partnetrship comes up between them. Who do you blame for this shoddy bowling show?

Duckett slams Brar for a boundary and brings up his 4th ODI ton now. What a player he is turning out to be for England. And he has been exceptional. England look good for at least 350 now.

Indian bowlers have been toothless. They have been at the mercy of English batters. Maybe some overs of spin will help the team. It is 212/1 in 34 overs.

Duckett has been dealing in boundaries right now. He is joined by Root, so England can be rest assured that they are going past 300. India haven't been able to dismiss him in this series so far.

Ashwin not happy with Kuldeep's absence

The only defense for not playing Kuldeep usually is that the batting finishes at number 7, wonder how it feels to have Arshdeep at number 8 today!

Prasidh Krishna removes Bethell for 91 and the 192-run stand comes to an end. Pulls and Rohit takes a simple catch. He must be disappointed to miss out on his 2nd ODI ton. Nonetheless, excellent by the batter.

Bethell has been going very well... he is fast approaching his ton. Once again the question arises, what does the Indian attack offer if Bumrah is not around.

Axar Patel continues and looks like he has been hurt. He tries a reverse sweep and gets a leading edge. Ishan gives a full stretch dive and seems to have hurt his ribs. But he is back on his feet.

Duckett and Bethell have given no opening to the Indian bowlers, and this just goes on to show how brittle the attack is without Jaspirt Bumrah. And then you don't play a spinner who has 200 ODI wicket -- KULDEEP.

Time for Duckett to raise his bat.

Both England openers have got fifties now at Lord’s. Brar came in, hits him on the back of a length around leg, angling across toward off stump at about 146 kph. Duckett just hops back, opens the face, and nudges it down to deep third for two.

That took him to 50 off 64 balls. It’s his 10th ODI half-century. Simple knock, but important one. He’s dug in, got through the tough part, and now England have both openers set.

Duckett can easily get to triple figures today! 

It’s been a while. Nearly four years, to be exact, since England’s openers put together a 100-plus stand at home in an ODI.

The last one was Bairstow and Roy — 102 runs against New Zealand at Chester-le-Street in 2022. This new partnership just ended that drought. 

Wow, England will breath a sigh of relief. For the first time since September, an English opener not named Ben Duckett has scored an ODI fifty. After changing so many names at the top of the order, Bethell seems to have excelled. He gets hits fifty by smacking Arshdeep for a boundary over the leg side.

Without Bumrah, this Indian bowling attack is looking toothless. There have not been many half chances created as well, with Duckett and Bethell looking at ease. After 15 overs, it is drinks and the Indian camp has a lot to think about. The England stand is about to hit the century-partnership mark and it is looking a tiring day ahead for the Indians.

Prince Yadav has found his lines. He was keeping the batters tied, sticking to bowling at the stumps. Almost ran Jacob Bethell out, as he had a shy at the stumps after collecting the ball in his follow-through.

However, Prince, after showing good control, errs. Bethell pulls him for a six over deep backward square leg's head and a four towards midwicket. Prince has leaked runs (28 off 3 overs) and needs to tighten up.

The BCCI has said Rohit Sharma won't be retiring today. But his wife Ritika is present at Lord's for the game. Although she attends quite a few matches of his, could this be a sign? 

Indian bowlers just keeps straying on the pads. Runs have come easy for England, who've brought up their team fifty in 8.1 overs.

Well, like mentioned, Ben Duckett has started with aggression. He milked three boundaries in the first over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. Two were deliveries asking to be hit, too full and on the leg side. The last one was unfortunate as an inner edge rolled towards the boundary. 

Arshdeep Singh is finding enough swing from the other end. He just needs to bowl at good length.

So, get ready for action as Arshdeep Singh takes the new ball against the two southpaw openers, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell.

Bethell will be under pressure to score after his failures in the first two games. Duckett, meanwhile, will be looking to dominate the Indian pace attack that is without spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. 

Jofra Archer, who recently spoke with SkySports, talked about the battle with Virat Kohli and other Indian batters. 

"[On his contest with Virat Kohli and the importance of taking key wickets] Yeah, he's the key, it's stopping them from getting 300. You get him, you get Rohit, you get Shubman. The others probably will still take them to 300, but I think if you get them out, you significantly stop the chances of happening."

Archer is the leading wicket-taker for England in this ODI series, having picked up four wickets at an economy of 5.35.

So, the BCCI has issued a clarification on why Jasprit Bumrah is missing the third ODI at Lord's. He has sustained an impact injury on his left knee. The injury occurred in the previous game while fielding, and hence he is missing due to reactive swelling. 

 "Jasprit Bumrah had an impact injury on his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff. He was not available for selection for the third ODI due to reactive swelling in his left knee."

England make just one change as they bring in Josh Tongue for Saqib Mahmood, who went for runs in the last game. 

Here comes the big news from the Home of Cricket as Jasprit Bumrah misses out on the decider due to a knee injury. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube are also out. 

Instead, India have brought in Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and KL Rahul. So, no Kuldeep Yadav or Harsh Dubey in London. 

So, the news from the centre is that Harry Brook has won the toss and England have elected to bat first.

Ishan Kishan played the last game in Cardiff as India lost KL Rahul due to illness. It came as a surprise but these things do happen. Now, as per Cricbuzz, KL Rahul is healthy and available. Ideally, he should slot right back into the Indian middle order. Let's see what happens at the toss.

The toss is just a few minutes away and Team India are at the ground. Morne Morkel, on the eve of the game, said that the head coach will decide the playing XI after looking at the pitch. Now, the time has come. Gambhir and other staff members have seen the wicket at Lord's. Will India include Kuldeep Yadav? Or will Harsh Dubey, the injury replacement for Sundar, come in?

Everyone’s watching Rohit Sharma on Sunday. The retirement noise hasn’t stopped all week. For 19 years we’ve watched him walk out and be a pillar of India's batting.

Lately though, the conversations around him have been difficult. Some argue that India should look beyond Rohit, who will turn 40 next year. That’s heavy for any player. Sunday at Lord’s, in a decider, with all the retirement noise around him, it's a stage Rohit would love to own. People don’t just want runs. They want to see that old aggression, that lazy elegance, and an opener with intent.
