The long-awaited Call of Duty live-action movie has finally received a major update. During the “Call of Duty in Culture” panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City, director Peter Berg officially confirmed that the upcoming film will be set entirely within the beloved Modern Warfare universe.
Furthermore, the update about the Call of Duty film was backed up by the official Call of Duty social media accounts, where it was disclosed that the film would hit the big screen starting from June 30, 2028.
Call of Duty Movie Confirmed: Modern Warfare Takes Center Stage
Since the time when Activision announced their plan to make a movie based on the game Call of Duty, many people had been speculating about what plot would be the center of this movie. It is said that the choice of the Modern Warfare timeline will definitely please many gamers as it contains the most interesting characters.
The series was first introduced with the game called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007. The franchise changed everything that was typical for military shooter games. Instead of the WWII settings, it offers a new storyline with the following characters:

Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan Lead the Project
The film is being directed and written by Peter Berg, who has directed some very exciting military movies like Lone Survivor. His co-writer will be Taylor Sheridan, who is famous for creating the Yellowstone series and writing Sicario.
It still remains to be seen whether the film will base itself on one of the classic campaigns from the series or take a wholly original approach to the franchise.
Whatever way that Activision decides to go with its storytelling, it is safe to say that the confirmation of the setting has done much to build up the hype of the project. There have even been rumors going around that the success of the movie at the box office could allow for a Call of Duty universe.
