Australia's 13-member squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh comprises of the trio of Lyon, Hazlewood and Cummins.

Cricket Australia on Tuesday announced the 13-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The trio of captain Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood return to the side for the series that will commence from August 13 onwards. The two-match series marks Bangladesh’s first Test tour to Australia since 2003. Australia are currently on top of the World Test Championship (WTC 2025/27) standings, having won 7 out of 8 matches played so far.

Captain Pat Cummins last featured in a Test in the Ashes following which he was sidelined due to a lumbar stress. While he did feature in the IPL 2026, the series against Bangladesh will mark his return to the longest format of the game for the first time this year. Cummins has 315 Test wickets and over 1500 runs to his name from 72 matches.

Nathan Lyon returns to the side after spending months on the sidelines. He went under the knife for a hamstring strain in December, which many believed was career threatening. However, the veteran last week claimed that he was ready to return to action. Selectors have indicated they may have to carefully manage the oldest member of their squad given it was his second significant soft-tissue injury in three years.

Josh Hazlewood last featured in a Test back in July 2025. A hamstring injury and a Achilles injury kept him out of the longest format entirely in 2025. Like Cummins, he returned to action in IPL 2026. With the veteran pace trio of Starc-Cummins-Hazlewood returning to the Test line-up, Scott Boland is likely to sit out once again.

While this is a 13-player squad, we have players prepared and available should any adjustments be required in the lead up to these matches. As previously stated, the volume of cricket and schedule across the next 12 months are likely to present further opportunities across all formats for many players,” Australia chief selector George Bailey said.
