Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has etched his name in history, becoming Mumbai Indians’ highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League. The milestone was achieved during MI’s IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. A lanky pacer, who was hit for three consecutive boundaries on his IPL debut, now stands at the pinnacle for Mumbai, who unearthed the modern-day great in 2013.
Bumrah goes past Malinga
Bumrah needed just one wicket to surpass Lasith Malinga — his long-time mentor and MI legend — and wasted little time in achieving it. He cramped up Aiden Markram, who was coming on the back of terrific form. However, Bumrah’s class proved to be too perfect for the South African, who handed a simple catch on the boundary to have Bumrah etch his name in history. Remarkably, both Bumrah and Malinga have represented only the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
Known for delivering under pressure, Bumrah also holds the distinction of recording multiple five-wicket hauls for MI — a feat no other Mumbai bowler has achieved. His best figures (5/10) came against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022, though MI ended up on the losing side.
Bumrah’s latest milestone places him second in the list for most wickets for a single franchise in IPL history, trailing only Sunil Narine’s 187 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
