Vijay Shankar to desert Tamil Nadu for Tripura ahead of 2025/26 domestic season

All-rounder Vijay Shankar has obtained a NOC from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and is likely to play for Tripura in the future

Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar will most likely play for Tripura in the upcoming domestic season which will commence with the Duleep Trophy 2025/26. If confirmed, he will join ex-Andhra Pradesh star Hanuma Vihari in the north-east team. An integral part of the Tamil Nadu team over the years, Shankar made his debut for the state across formats back in 2012 and 2013.

Shankar to join Vihari in Tripura

As per Cricbuzz, Shankar has obtained a No Objection certificate (NOC) from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. However, he has still not received an official confirmation from the Tripura Cricket Association. The all-rounder said that he will make the official announcement once he gets the formal letter.

“I have obtained the NOC from TNCA but am yet to receive confirmation from the Tripura Cricket Association. I will be able to officially announce my switch once I get the formal approval letter from Tripura,” Shankar said.

Shankar has enjoyed tremendous success with Tamil Nadu across formats over the years. In his 13-year-long career with the state, he has amassed over 8000 runs and has picked 143 wickets from 328 matches. While TN does not have any dearth of talent, it will surely be a challenge to fill the void left behind by Shankar in the side.
