India’s squad for Asia Cup 2025 has raised more than a few eyebrows. BCCI unveiled the squad via a press conference with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Suryakumar Yadav in attendance. Among the major absentees were Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who Manoj Tiwary believes deserved to be in the 15-man squad.

Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has called for selection committee meetings to be broadcast live. The ex-Kolkata Knight Riders star suggests that would clear the air on certain selections and make the process more transparent. This comes after Yashasvi Jaiswal was named in the reserves, while Shreyas Iyer was completely omitted.
“People who deserve opportunities are not getting them. That is why I have long been saying that selection meetings should be live telecast so that sports enthusiasts understand why a player is chosen and why another is not. Simply coming to a press conference, offering a line or two about an exclusion, and then doing something different is not right,” Manoj Tiwary told ANI news agency.
Shreyas Iyer led the Punjab Kings to the final of IPL 2025. He scored over 600 runs at a strike rate of 175. Iyer top scored for India in the Champions Trophy and was expected to be picked. Instead, the selectors persisted with Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube.
“Two deserving candidates, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, have missed out. If you look at old interviews of Gautam Gambhir, he said Yashasvi Jaiswal is a player who cannot be left out of T20 cricket. Now, with Gambhir himself as coach, Yashasvi still has no place,” he added.
Tiwary was Gambhir’s long time teammate at KKR where they won two IPL titles together.
