Out of favour Pakistan cricket team star Azam Khan spilled the beans on his strategy to improve his fitness and is undergoing a weight loss programme at the NCA in Lahore. The keeper-batter, who was last seen in action in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 10) earlier this year, has been ignored by the national selectors since the end of T20 World Cup 2024. As he prepares for his comeback, Azam revealed how he has been sweating it out at the NCA towards weight loss and better fitness.
Azam Khan’s weight loss plan revealed
As per GeoSuper, Khan said that weight loss couldn’t happen within a couple of weeks, adding that it will take time. The keeper-batter claimed that playing cricket extensively over the last four or five years had not allowed him to focus on fitness, a bizarre claim in the days of modern cricket where fitness and participation go hand in hand.
“Right now, I am in Lahore and trying to work on my fitness and game at the NCA. My weight loss won’t happen in a couple of weeks or days, it needs time. For the past four or five years, I have been playing a lot of cricket, so I didn’t have the chance to properly focus on my fitness,” Khan said.
Pakistan cricketers have been criticized in the past over their fitness, particularly the diet that they follow. Despite his bulky build, Azam has showcased his ability to hit powerful sixes and be agile behind the stumps in the past. However, he hasn’t been spared of scrutiny. Now, Azam has admitted that he previously had bad eating habits but that was no longer an excuse for him. While Azam did not make the cut for the Asia Cup squad, he will be pushing himself to get back in shape in time for the T20 World Cup next year.
“I had some bad eating habits, but that’s not an excuse anymore,” Azam added.
