Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence from both India A’s squads for multi-day and one-day games against Australia A. The CSK captain, who was last seen in action in the Duleep Trophy and even slammed a 184-run knock, surprisingly found no place in the IND-A squads. Chopra claimed that it wasn’t right to exclude a technically compact Gaikwad from all formats.
Is Gaikwad’s exclusion from India A squads right?
In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra claimed it was a travesty for Gaikwad’s name to be lost among others. He said that while his snub from Team India’s selection point of view was understandable, it wasn’t right to leave him out of India A squads. Chopra said that the CSK captain was too good a player to be left out from all formats for India A.
“It’s a slight travesty that your name gets lost among so many names. However, I can understand the Indian selection, but I feel it’s not right if his name doesn’t come for India-A both in multi-day and one-dayers. His name should be there somewhere or other. He is too good a player to actually miss out completely from every single thing,” Chopra said.
After missing majority of IPL 2025 due to an injury, Gaikwad made his comeback to competitive cricket in the Duleep Trophy 2025. In the only match that he played, he managed to amass 210 runs. Chopra pointed out that India had won many games under Gaikwad’s captaincy in the Asian Games, adding that he was a ‘technically compact’ player.
“He scored a century against Australia in Guwahati and is a technically compact player. He was the captain in the Asian Games. We won the Asian Games under Ruturaj’s captaincy. He is a very, very good player,” Chopra added.
