Just about everyone is tired reading various, non-reliable reports on Sanju Samson’s IPL trade deals, either with CSK or then, with KKR. Neither seem to fructify, since it seems, the RR management are not content with the players they are getting in return. After all Samson is one of those players, when on song, can take the game away from the opposition, alone.
Worthy Replacement for Sanju Samson?
Initially, it was believed that RR wanted Shivam Dube and even R Ashwin in trade, and then for KKR, Venkatesh Iyer’s name was floated, but value-wise, it just doesn’t look the greatest of prospects. Nonetheless, there were even reports, that if the franchise does not find a half-decent deal with the other teams, they might just release Sanju Samson and put him in the auction.
Whether right or wrong.. it is not the point of discussion for now, but if RR have made up their mind to find a replacement for the Kerala batter, who should it be? Auctions anyways is a grey area, where there isn’t much control. But if at all, looking at the current balance of the side — Rajasthan Royals should be aiming to get Australia’s Cameron Green.
Cameron Green a Solid Option
The lanky all-rounder had missed out on IPL 2025 due to an injury, and could be just the player that the team needs for long. He bats, and bowls, and is in that Shane Watson mold, who could change their fortunes. The team doesn’t have any fast-bowling all-rounder in their ranks — in fact — overall have just two — Riyan Parag and Wanindu Hasaranga.
If Samson goes, a hitter in the top 4 would be needed for sure. That player can also be a finisher, when needed. And Cam Green fits the bill perfectly well. On Sunday, in the third ODI vs South Africa, he went on to smash his maiden ton in only 47 deliveries, which might have only made the scouts more interested in him. What was noteworthy is, he finished his innings with a strike-rate over 200. So, that only makes his case stronger, as a replacment.
