The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is in its business end. This is the worst time for teams to slack off, with every match ever so crucial in the race to the playoffs. So far, we have completed six weeks of action, with the latest one being as entertaining as anyone.
The week started with an IPL innings for the ages. 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a dream outing against the Gujarat Titans (GT), with him blazing a 35-ball hundred, the fastest ever by an Indian. Still, he has not made it to this week’s Best XI. This is because of his two failures after that whirlwind knock.
Meanwhile, other top-order batters, Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer showed tremendous consistency. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) and GT players have dominated in the sixth week, while the two wins that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) recorded were quite beneficial as well.
InsideSport takes a look at the Team of the Week for IPL 2025, Week (Apr 21-27).

Shubman Gill-Prabhsimran Singh to open
Two players, born in Punjab, have made it as openers. Shubman Gill was in sublime touch throughout the week, compiling 160 runs (the most) across two innings at an average of 80. He struck two classy half-centuries, including a top score of 84. His strike rate of 181.81 was fascinating to witness. Against SRH, he was out of this word, hammering a 38-ball 76.
Prabhsimran continued to be a revelation at the top for Punjab Kings, smashing 145 runs in two innings. His 91-run blitz was one of the standout knocks and finished the week with aplomb, laced with 11 fours and 10 sixes. The retention choice by PBKS is doing wonders!
Shreyas Iyer, Buttler & Parag form middle-order
Another GT player, Jos Buttler was clinical in both outings this week, racking up 114 runs while being dismissed just once. The England veteran looked in command with two impactful fifties and had a remarkable SR of 180.95. After the fabulous starts that Sai Sudharsan and Gill give, Buttler is an ideal commodity at number three.
Shreyas Iyer led from the front with 117 runs in two matches, including a brisk 72. His innings came at a strike rate of 177.27. The first one was against CSK while chasing when he was the Player of the Match for his impeccable 72. Last night, Iyer demoted himself due to a tactical decision and made an impactful 45.
Meanwhile, Riyan Parag finally resurrected his awful season with 143 runs across three innings. The best knock was indeed his 95, where he tried to make a game out of nothing. Well, it was a historic innings since Parag hit six sixes, not in a single over but on consecutive balls.
Caribbean flair: Russell, Romario, Narine
Russell reminded everyone of his brute power with an unbeaten 57 that basically won KKR their game vs RR. Russell finally found his form for KKR, scoring a 22-ball fifty against RR in IPL 2025. He hit six sixes and four boundaries, helping KKR post 206/4 in 20 overs. Russell’s partnership with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who scored 57 off 25 balls, was crucial. Earlier in the week, Russell shone with the ball too, taking 1/22.
Meanwhile, Romario Shepherd lit up the Chinnaswamy with a 14-ball 50 – the second-fastest in IPL history. His astonishing 33-run over against CSK equalled the joint-most in IPL 2025 and was the highlight of the week. Scoring 56 runs in the final 14 balls of the RCB innings, he powered a late-innings explosion that completely flipped the match.
Meanwhile, KKR’s treasure continues to give. Sunil Narine was the Player of the Match yet again when he changed the game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In the week, he grabbed 3 wickets for 56 runs across 8 overs in two matches. His spell of 3/29 was particularly influential in breaking the back of DC’s innings. He maintained a tidy economy of 7.00, squeezing the scoring in the crucial middle overs.
Arshdeep Singh, Boult, Chakravarthy & an Impact Sub
Arshdeep Singh was sharp and accurate, and was perhaps the best bowler of the week, claiming 5 wickets in two matches at an exceptional economy of 5.59. This economy is something unheard of! Last night, he single-handedly broke LSG’s back when he dismissed their in-form Marsh, Markram and Pooran, that too, inside the powerplay overs.
In his only appearance of the week, Trent Boult delivered a match-winning spell, claiming 3/28. His two powerplay breakthroughs of Suryavanshi and Nitish Rana derailed the RR big time and turned the tide in Mumbai’s favour. His ability to swing the new ball and take early wickets made a massive impact. However, what has been quite awesome is the fact that Boult has been nailing down yorkers superbly.
Another players from KKR and PBKS follows to sum up the Best XI of the week. Varun Chakaravarthy was outstanding for KKR this week, delivering crucial spells in both matches against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He picked up four wickets and kept things tight through the middle overs and had a bowling SR of 12.0.
Yuzvendra Chahal, is used as an Impact Player here, grabbed headlines with a stunning hat-trick against CSK — removing Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad in a single over, after also dismissing MS Dhoni. All this in a single over! However, despite that match-winning moment, Chahal’s overall economy (11.71) was on the expensive side, leaking 82 runs in just seven overs across the two games.
