India vs Sri Lanka Final set! Jemimah Rodrigues powers Women in Blue to tri-series showdown

South Africa needed to win this match to contend for the tri-series final, having lost their last two games.

The India women’s cricket team has beaten the South Africa women in the 5th ODI of the Tri-Nation series and set up a clash against Sri Lanka in the final. Harmanpreet Kaur and co. had already won 2 out of the 3 games before the match and were on top of the points table.

India vs Sri Lanka in Tri-series Final

With a win, Team India would confirm their spot in the final. And with a 23-run victory, they’ve done just that. The Proteas needed a win. They have already lost their first two matches, and it was a do-or-die situation for them. Chloe Tryon led the way with both bat and ball, but in the end, South Africa fell short.

Although Sri Lanka and South Africa will play the 6th ODI on May 9, the Proteas have already been knocked out. And in the end, it’ll be nothing but a practice game for both sides.

Jemimah Rodrigues leads the way

India were put in to bat first by South Africa, and the move didn’t turn out that well. Pratika Rawal registered her first-ever single-digit score, but Smriti Mandhana stood up with a good fifty. But it was Jemimeh Rodrigues who took India ahead. She got her hundred in 88 balls and then scored 23 runs in her last 13 balls. Deepti Sharma was equally exceptional and missed out on her century by just 7 runs.

Much like India, the South African middle order did the heavy lifting. But none of them got the triple digits like Jemimah. Annerie Dercksen and Tryon got fifties and kept them in the match, but it just wasn’t enough.
