With an emphatic win over New Zealand, India is through to the semis. Next up, in all probability would be Australia in the semis. And before that match, India face Bangladesh in their last group match. A relatively easy match, but cannot be taken lightly for sure, with issues galore to address for Harmanpreet Kaur and Amol Muzumdar.
Ground fielding good, catching not so much
Even though India has some brilliant fielders now, who save a lot of runs, but catching has been poor. The team has dropped 15-16 catches.. yes, some were half chances, but some sitters have been dropped as well. Looking ahead at semis, India cannot afford that for sure.
Question marks on selection
Finally India is beginning to realise that they need six full-time bowlers in the XI, but the management doesn’t seem to keen on dropping Harleen Deol. To put it straight, India needs to play Renuka Singh Thakur and Amanjot Kaur together; Harleen goes out. There too, the likes of Pratika Rawal and Harmanpreet need to chip in with overs to add variety.
Expensive Amanjot & Sneh Rana
Sneh Rana has picked up a few wickets but her economy rate in the Women’s World Cup 2025, has been close to 6. Amanjot’s economy has been a poor 6.88. So, that is something the Indian team needs to work on. Front line bowlers should not be conceding these many runs.
Harmanpreet needs to be India no. 3
More often than not, a situation is arising with the Indian team, where the scoring rate dips considerably when the opening pair gets out. And to arrest that dip, Harman needs to take the charge and promote herself in the batting order. Harleen seems to be getting into a shell, which exerts pressure on players like Jemimah and the rest to follow. That can be avoided with the skipper at 3.
