The exclusion of Shreyas Iyer from Team India’s Asia Cup squad, and even in the non-travelling reserves has irked many. That has also brought into light, his diminishing role in the national team, where youngsters are making a move over him. And the story continues in Tests and T20Is both.
Shreyas Iyer to Get the Nod
Now, before the IND vs AUS series starts, there is an A series coming up between the two nations (Tests and ODIs), that could decide the fate of the cricketer. As per a report in Cricbuzz, it is confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will be picked in the squad, but in what capacity, is the question. If the report is to be believed, he could be in contention for a leadership role.
For now, he is busy playing for the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy, in the leadership of state mate Shardul Thakur. His failed innings of 25 is hardly to have a negative impact on his India A chances though, at least on the unofficial Tests. Meanwhile, others in contention could be Nitish Reddy, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sai Sudharsan.
Other Stars in Contention Too
The other names under consideration will be that of N Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rajat Patidar, who all are in sensational form in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. As far as the schedule for the Ind A vs Aus A series is concerned, the first four-day match will be held in Lucknow from September 16. The second will start on September 23 at the same venue, followed by three ODIs from 30th — all in Kanpur.
The selection panel, in all likelihood could announce the team after September 7, post the conclusion of the Duleep Trophy semis, and before the final on 11th.
