"He had plans": Bishnoi reveals Pant's hand behind not completing quota in LSG vs CSK

Lucknow Super Giants spinner Ravi Bishnoi failed to complete his quota of 4 overs against CSK, probably what could have costed LSG the game. MS Dhoni stayed unbeaten on 26 runs to help the five-time champions end their losing streak in IPL 2025 with a 5-wicket win. Bishnoi, who was LSG’s best bowler the previous night, was surprisingly not allowed to bowl in the death overs.

Why didn’t Bishnoi bowl 4 overs vs CSK?

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bishnoi said that he didn’t have a conversation with captain Rishabh Pant about it. He pointed out that it was the LSG captain’s decision to not bowl him in the death overs, adding that he might have had plans he wanted to execute.

I didn’t really talk [to Pant] about it, but I went to the wicket a couple of times and I think he had plans in place he wanted to execute. In such situations the captain is better placed and he keeps wicket too, so he understands things better. According to me, he took the decision he thought was better,” Bishnoi said.

What Pant said

Bishnoi had picked up 2 wickets in 3 overs and had conceded just 18 runs. Pant, however, opted to use pacers in the death overs despite Bishnoi having one over left.

There was lot of time when I thought about bowling him (Bishnoi) that (fourth) over, but we discussed with a lot of players and just couldn’t let him bowl. We thought let’s take it deeper, and that didn’t happen for us today,” Pant said at the post-match presentation.

With 24 required off the last 12 deliveries, Dube and Dhoni successfully chased down the 167-run target by taking the pacers to the cleaners.
