The incident occurred in the 17th over as Mohit Sharma was bowling to Sanju Samson. The on-field umpire signaled a wide as the ball went way past the tramline. However, the events that followed has sparked a controversy.

As the on-field umpire signaled a wide, GT decided to review the decision. Initially, the third umpire decided to overturn the on-field umpire’s decision to ‘not wide’. However, on checking the delivery again, the third umpire decided to ask his on-field counterpart to stay with his ‘wide’ decision. This incident left Gill furious, who then went on to argue with the umpires.
