India finally won the ICC Champions Trophy on Sunday against New Zealand in Dubai. It was a collective effort from all the players who contributed to this tournament and gave their best effort. As Virat Kohli said, “We never know till when we will be here, but we want to leave the team after ensuring that the Indian cricket team is in safe hands, and we believe it is.” After the show in the Champions Trophy, let’s take a look at the three stars who will carry and continue the legacy for years.
Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill may not have impressed much in the tournament, but he has played a big role for the Indian team in the group stage matches. He started the tournament well, scoring a century in the first match itself against Bangladesh. He has shown some brilliance there. Also, he made crucial contributions in the high-octane match against Pakistan by scoring 46 runs. He is already a star and will continue to take decision and carry the team in the future. Virat Kohli has himself said that, “Shubman and Shreyas played beautifully, KL (Rahul) has been finishing games, Hardik is a matchwinner so we are in good hands.”
Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has been there for years in the Indian cricket team, but his real potential and value came during the last two ICC tournaments. In the World Cup 2023 and now the Champions Trophy, the batter has taken his role as number 4 and excelled in it. In both the tournament, he emerged as the top run-scorer for the Indian team. He was initially ignored during the ODI series against England, but played 1st match as Kohli was injured and regained his place in the team. After this feat in the Champions Trophy, it’s certain that the batter is able to carry the team and deal with the pressure on big occasions as well.
