Sarfaraz Khan has recorded a superb century for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy, toppling Rohit Sharma's record in process.

Sarfaraz Khan has gotten a new lease of life as far as his white-ball career is concerned. The Indian international, who hasn’t played for the country since November 1, 2024, has put up a sensational show in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). In the fourth round of fixtures for Mumbai, the talented star walloped a superb 157 off just 75 balls to record the fastest List-A century for Mumbai.

Sarfaraz completed his century in just 56 balls, toppling Rohit Sharma’s record. The Hitman set the record only last week when he hammered a 62-ball century against Sikkim. Rohit made a 94-ball 155 in that comeback innings of his in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Now, against Goa, Sarfaraz has one-upped him on a day where most of the fringe players are making it count.

Sensational Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan’s talent is not a hidden secret in red-ball cricket. The lad averages 63.15 in first-class cricket with 16 centuries and as many 50s as well. However, it must be noted that it was in the T20s where Sarfaraz first made his name. RCB signed him in 2015. At 17, he became the then-youngest player ever to play in the IPL. His exquisite and innovative batting quickly made him a favourite among fans. However, it all went haywire since in white-ball cricket.

Now, after his superb transformation in terms of fitness, Sarfaraz has made himself a gem in all three formats. Just recently, he delivered a scintillating Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) for Mumbai. In the 20-over format, he hammered 329 runs at 65.80 and at a phenomenal strike rate of 203.09. This led Sarfaraz to find an IPL team in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well.

Now, Sarfaraz has mustered 220 runs at 110.00 and at a strike rate above 170 in the 50-over tournament. The kind of destructive batting Sarfaraz is doing makes you wonder about his insane talent. On the New Year’s eve, he hammered Goa bowlers with utter disdain, racking up 14 sixes and 9 boundaries and operated at a SR of almost 210. These are insane numbers in the 50-over format. Thanks to him and fifties from Musheer Khan and Hardik Tomore, Mumbai made 444/8, their second-highest List-A total ever.
