Mohammad Rizwan feels the Champions Trophy 2025 is far away, and there is no hurry right now to finalise the squad for the 8-team event. The Pakistan cricket team’s white-ball captain was asked for his thoughts by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) own media, and he stated that currently they are planning for the South Africa tour, which kicks off on December 10.
Rizwan focusing on South Africa
“In terms of time, the Champions Trophy and World Cup (T20 in 2026) are far away. Right now, we are playing in South Africa,” Rizwan said in Durban. Pakistan is fresh from beating Zimbabwe, 2-1 (in ODIs and T20Is). They flew directly from there and arrived in South Africa on December 7 for the tour, which ends on January 7 in Cape Town.
Conditions, basis for Pakistan’s squad for Champions Trophy
As far as the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 is concerned, Rizwan thinks the 15-20 guys who are part of the setup will remain, but it can’t be finalised now. Why? He feels the squad selected for South Africa was based on the fast and bouncy conditions, while the Champions Trophy will be played in Asia, where the ball tends to spin more and the dew plays a factor, among other things.
“The World Cup will happen in India; the Champions Trophy is in Pakistan. These will be Asian conditions, which will be different than here but we have out targets. If you look at our squad for South Africa, we have made it by keeping the conditions in mind,” Rizwan added.
