Ravichandran Ashwin has fact-checked an X (formerly Twitter) user who was spreading falsehoods in the spinner’s name. On March 7, the account in question presented a quote from Ashwin. The recently retired cricketer has continued to remain relevant in the sport by sharing insight through his YouTube channel.
Ashwin denies making Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli retirement claims
“As far as I know Rohit is targeting 2027 ODI WC while you may see Virat Kohli hanging up his boots soon because he wants to spend more time with his young family that is what Virat discussed to me few months back,” the X user had claimed that Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
The user claimed that Ashwin had said that Virat Kohli will retire soon, suggesting that the Champions Trophy 2025 could be his final ICC tournament. The post, which has garnered around 10,000 likes and over 600,000 views, also claimed that Ashwin stated Rohit Sharma will play until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The off-spinner quoted tweeted the user and stated that he made no such comments. “Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?“ Ashwin wrote back.
While nothing suggests that either Kohli or Rohit Sharma will retire after the ICC Champions Trophy, a recent report claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will decide regarding Rohit’s future as India cricket team captain depending on the outcome of the tournament. Team India has already reached the final. After such a dominating performance, it doesn’t seem likely that BCCI will tell him to step down, at least as the ODI captain.
