PCB misses ICC deadline, Pakistan T20 World Cup squad announcement after 1st T20I against England

According to a PCB source, the delay also aims to provide additional time for captain Babar Azam and other players to re-establish a strong team bond before the World Cup.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, but fans will have to wait a bit longer for the T20 World Cup squad reveal.

Focus on Fitness and Performance of Pakistan Cricket Team

Citing concerns over player fitness and recent performances, the PCB has opted to delay the T20 World Cup squad announcement until after the first T20I against England on May 22nd.

This decision ensures they meet the ICC’s final deadline of May 24th for finalizing squads without requiring special permission.

PCB monitoring key players

Management is closely monitoring players like Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, Irfan Khan Niazi, and Haris Rauf, who have been battling minor injuries. Their performance and fitness during the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England will be crucial factors in their World Cup selection.

Two Players Out, Three Return

The 18-man squad for the Ireland and England series sees the return of fast bowler Haris Rauf and all-rounders Hasan Ali and Salman Ali Agha. Wrist spinner Usama Mir and fast bowler Zaman Khan, who were part of the original 17-man squad that faced New Zealand, have been omitted.

Pakistan final T20 World Cup squad after 1st England T20I

The final 15-man World Cup squad will be announced after the first T20I against England on May 22nd. This delay allows the selectors to assess player fitness, form, and team chemistry before finalizing the squad for the global tournament.
