With The Hundred set to begin from July 21 and the Test series from July 25, Abrar Ahmed now has to decide which team will he opt to play for.

Pakistan cricket team bowler Abrar Ahmed finds himself in a difficult situation, and will have to choose whether he will opt to play for his country in the WI vs PAK Tests or if he will play for Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred. The spinner was bought by Rs 2.30 crore in the The Hundred 2026 auction, a move that sparked a backlash against the Kavya Maran-led franchise. With The Hundred set to begin from July 21 and the Test series from July 25, Abrar now has to decide which team will he opt to play for.

Pakistan vs The Hundred: What will Abrar Ahmed pick?

As per telecomasia.com, a source claimed that Abrar and his agent are in a fix as if he is selected for the Test series, then his chances of featuring in The Hundred will be impacted. The two-match Test series will commence from July 25 onwards and will go on until August 7. Further, there has been no word yet on Ahmed securing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take part in The Hundred.

Abrar and his agent are in a fix because if he is selected for the Test team to play in the West Indies, it will affect his participation in The Hundred, which will start four days before the first Test,” sources said.

It is pertinent to point out that Abrar Ahmed isn’t a first-choice spinner for Pakistan in Tests and was last seen in action in the longest format of the game in January 2025 against West Indies in Multan. The Pakistan selectors are expected to announce the squad for the upcoming series on Monday.

Kavya Maran’s franchise faced severe backlash after deciding to buy the Pakistan spinner. For those who are unaware, Abrar had mocked the Indian armed forces after Operation Sindoor in May. He had used the incident of Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman being captured by the Pakistan Air Force.

As per the report, sources close to Ahmed’s agent claimed that it was imperative for Abrar to play in The Hundred, especially since the franchise has invested heavily in him and even resisted the backlash.

Sunrisers Leeds owner has faced backlash from 140 billion people and has resisted that, so it will be imperative that Abrar plays in The Hundred,” sources told the publication.
