RR vs SRH: Sunrisers Hyderabad thrash Rajasthan Royals by 5 wickets

Salil Arora finishes the game off in style as SRH clinch a 5-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals and complete the fourth highest successful run-chase in the history of IPL.

SRH lose half their side as Heinrich Klaasen departs, with the team needing just 9 runs. Brijesh Sharma gets another wicket, but it might be too late

Nitish Kumar Reddy brings up the fifty-run partnership between him and Klaasen with a massive six. In the very next delivery, he gets trapped for an LBW. SRH take a review but it is burnt as ball-tracking shows the delivery going on to crash into the stumps. SRH are 4 down and need 10 runs to win from 16 balls.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have slowed down after losing Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma but still find themselves in a comfortable situation. They need 9 runs per over as they need 30 runs off 23 balls, with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen on strike

SRH now need just 63 runs off 48 wickets as Riyan Parag is yet to figure out who could be his wicket-taking bowler. The RR captain has used 8 bowlers so far.

The 100-run partnership has come up between Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma off 48 balls and the required run-rate for SRH has now gone below 10.

SRH have reached 89/1 at the end of the powerplay despite losing Travis Head early on in the innings. RR will be dismayed with the dropped catches so dar as Ishan Kishan (35 off 14) and Abhishek Sharma (34 off 17) are now looking in good touch and are very well ahead in the run chase.

Now Ravindra Jadeja, one of the best in the business, drops a catch in the point region. Golden chance to get rid of Abhishek Sharma has been lost.

After dropping Travis Head off the very first delivery, Dhruv Jurel takes one to send the SRH batter packing for just 6 runs. SRH lose their first wicket as Archer draws the first blood. Game on! Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan dispatches Archer for a six off his very first delivery and the bowler can't believe it. However, credit where it is due, it is the fifth time that Jofra has gotten a wicket in his first over in IPL 2026

The explosive duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head are out in the middle to commence the run chase of 229 runs against RR. Ravi Bishnoi has come in as an impact player for the hosts. Jofra Archer starts with the new ball for RR. And in the very first ball, Jurel has put down a catch! Head has been dropped on zero. How costly could this be?

Ravindra Jadeja would remain not out but they did not run for a single as he walked off, feeling the catch was correctly taken. As a result, RR have missed out on a run. Rajasthan Royals end up with 228/5 with Praful Hinge finishing the final over with a wicket for 10 runs. RR have still left out 20-25 runs after the way Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played. The 15-year-old smashed a 37-ball 103 to set the stage for others. But Riyan Parag and Shimron faltered again. Dhruv Jurel scored 51 but it came with a strike rate of 145.71. Donovan Fereira played a good knock but as he fell in the 19th over, RR managed to score just 44 runs in the last five overs.

The poor run continues for Rajasthan Royals middle-order. After Riyan Parag's 7 off 9, Shimron Hetmyer departs for 11 off 10, failing to capitalise on Sooryavanshi's platform.

Eshan Malinga strikes. He bowls a low full toss, and as Donovan Fereira tried to take that on, he gave away a catch to long on. It would be a big blow for Rajasthan. Malinga bowls an excellent 19th over with just 5 runs coming off it for a wicket.

After the platform Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set, Rajasthan Royals needed someone to stand up and deliver in the death overs. Donovan Fereira has done that job so far. He is striking well, taking the attack to the SRH bowlers as he moves to 33 off 15 with three overs left.

Pat Cummins has an excellent start coming back from injury. He ends his spell with 1/27 in a high-scoring match. Sunrisers Hyderabad have their bowling sorted.

Pat Cummins strikes for the first time this IPL. He bowls a yorker and Riyan Parag had no chance to react as the stumps were shattered. Parag extends his poor run of form as he departs for 7 off 9.

With five overs to go in the innings, Donovan Fereira and Riyan Parag are on the crease. The two have to take charge with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi setting the stage for the two to finish off.

Sakib Hussain gets this delivery right as he bowls it full and a flamboyant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tried to scoop. But he was beaten. While he took the review, it was unsuccessful. Vaibhav departs for 103 off 37 balls.

Half-century and out! Dhruv Jurel departs for 51 off 35 balls, immediately after scoring his fifty and with that, the 112-run partnership is also broken. It was a short ball by Nitish Reddy and as he tried to pull, he miscued for an easy catch by Aniket Varma, who dropped Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earlier.

Dhruv Jurel brings up his third half-century of this IPL 2026. He gets to the milestone off 34 balls, not a destructive one but with the middle-order struggling, he needs to be there with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi moves to 80s with a reverse sweep four against Shivang Kumar. He then, smashed Shivang for a six over the extra cover to bring up 100-run stand with Dhruv Jurel.

It's Vaibhav Sooryavanshi all the way so far as Dhruv Jurel takes an anchoring role, going at a 108.70 strike rate. Vaibhav is doing the heavy-lifting, reaching 76 off 29 balls at 262.07. At the halfway mark, Rajasthan are 112/1.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shivang Kumar for a four and a six to bring up a 50-run stand with Dhruv Jurel. If he remains on the crease, Hyderabad will keep bleeding runs.

Another 15-ball half-century for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, his third in the IPL 2026. And with that, he brings up 1000 runs in T20 cricket, the youngest to achieve that feat. The powerplay also comes to an end and Rajasthan Royals have had a good start with 76/1.

Dropping catches has become a plague in the IPL as Aniket Verma joins the list. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tried to pull Eshan Malinga but Aniket spilt the catch at the boundary line, despite covering the ground to go under the ball. Sooryavanshi gets the lifeline at 32.

In the first match of the day, Punjab Kings pulled off the highest successful chase in IPL history. They chased down 265 against Delhi Capitals to maintain their unbeaten streak.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did not spare Pat Cummins either. Apart from Sunil Narine, he has hit almost all the top bowlers for a six on the first ball. Narine got hit for a six on the 2nd delivery.

Some respite for Sunrisers Hyderabad as Eshan Malinga has struck on the first ball, removing Yashavsi Jaiswal. Malinga bowled a slower back-of-the-length delivery and as Jaiswal tried to go for the pull, he mistimed and gave away a top-edge for an easy catch. Jaiswal falls for 10.

Well, it looks like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is hell-bent to take revenge against Praful Hinge for taking his wicket in game that the two sides locked horns in. The 15-year-old slams four back-to-back sixes to provide the perfect start for RR. He races to 24 off 5.

Pat Cummins returns to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad and wins the toss. He opts to bowl against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.

For the last few seasons, Rajasthan Royals have split their home matches between Guwahati and Jaipur. This time, Rajasthan Royals played three matches in Guwahati, winning all three. Now, they return to their original home ground, Sawai Mansingh Stadium. With the form of Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag under the spotlight, RR will need to take advantage of the conditions and win at least three out of four matches.

Ishan Kishan has a decent job as the captain, winning four and losing three to put Sunrisers Hyderabad at 4th spot. Now, Pat Cummins will take over as he returns from injury. He will lead SRH today.

For all of Rajasthan's strong start, five wins from seven and second on the table with 10 points. But there's one number that should worry them. Riyan Parag is averaging 13.50 across seven outings this season. His struggle to anchor the middle order has stopped RR from asserting themselves once the top three are gone. 

Rajasthan have papered over it because of how brilliant their openers have been. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi leads the team with 254 runs at a strike rate of 220.86, including two 15-ball fifties. Yashasvi Jaiswal isn't far behind on runs with 245. But sooner or later, somebody from the captain to Hetmyer to Jadeja has to take responsibility once the powerplay's gone. That hasn’t been the case yet. 

Their bowling has clicked at times to rescue them. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger have been excellent, while Ravi Bishnoi has scalped regular wickets to keep the middle-overs in control. 

In IPL 2025, the average first-innings score at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium was 198, one of the highest of any IPL venue last year. Even so, chasing sides won four of the seven matches at the venue. That tells you two things at once: it's a high-scoring ground where the par total is 200-plus, but dew makes life tougher for whoever bowls second.

The other quirk worth noting, the big square boundaries make for an interesting equation when facing spinners. 

History says this is SRH's fixture. Across 22 IPL meetings, Sunrisers Hyderabad have won 13 and Rajasthan Royals nine. The recent run is even more lopsided. SRH are on a 5-0 winning streak against RR in the IPL since the 2023 season, including a 57-run thumping in Hyderabad earlier this month.
