DRS, June 21: Jaiswal creates Test history, India don’t miss Kohli in England & Gill broke ICC rule?

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

The India vs England Test series has commenced. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have already struck centuries. Jaiswal has created a record, while Gill may have broken a major ICC rule. Sai Sudharsan has found a connection with Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli. Speaking of Kohli, he won’t be missed, says an ex-England captain. Jasprit Bumrah should be even if not 100% fit as another ex-England captain. And two speedsters, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, might just play in the series.

Centurion Gill breaks ICC rules

What a way to make your Test captaincy debut for India. Shubman Gill has scored his maiden Test century in England and a first in SENA countries. Taking over Virat Kohli’s number four position, Gill ended the day unbeaten at 127. However, he might have broken an ICC rule during his incredible knock. A piece of clothing may get Gill into trouble. It might be a hefty fine or perhaps even more. Click here to find out more about it.

Jaiswal become Headingley Hero

Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the first batter in Test cricket to score hundreds in Australia and England in his first match. Jaiswal scored a hundred in Perth last year and with his incredible 101-run knock in Headingley, he’s achieved this feat. Having made his debut in 2023, three of Jaiswal’s five hundreds have come away from home.

Virat Kohli’s average in England

Former England captain Michael Vaughan reckons that Shubman Gill’s Team India wouldn’t miss Virat Kohli that much. He justifies his statement by saying that Kohli averaged a mere 33 in England. From purely a batter’s perspective, not having him won’t hurt Team India. But Vaughan thinks Gill will miss his presence in the dressing room.

Sai Sudharsan made his debut on June 20. Do you know who else made their Test debuts on the same date? Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. Now, Sudharsan has recorded a duck in Headingley, which neither did in their first innings. But if the date tells you anything, it’s that he might be another superstar in the making.

Archer & Wood to play in IND vs ENG?

England captain Ben Stokes has revealed that Jofra Archer is desperate to play in the India vs England Test series. He even wanted to play against Zimbabwe, but Stokes told him to wait for now. Another speedster in Mark Wood just might be available for the latter half of the 5-match series. Wood injured himself during the Champions Trophy and underwent knee surgery in March.

DRS 6

Play Bumrah even if he’s not fully fit

Former England captain David Gower thinks that because Jasprit Bumrah is such an exceptional bowler, Team India should have him in their playing XI even if he’s 75–80% fit. Prior to the India vs England Test series, Bumrah had stated that he would not play more than three matches to ensure he did not get injured.
