Yashasvi Jaiswal has dispelled all doubts on his suitability in English conditions with a fine batting performance in the IND vs ENG 1st Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashes fifty in 1st Test in England
Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a stunning hundred in his very first Test in England on Friday. Opening the batting with KL Rahul, the left-hander was measured in his strokeplay against the moving ball. He got off the mark with an outside edge but that seemed to be the only blemish in a good innings.
The 23-year-old was the accelerator early in the innings, putting Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue away on loose deliveries. However, he was immaculate in his judgement of line and length, playing the waiting game when needed. He put on 91 with Rahul for the first wicket, before the latter and Sai Sudharsan were dismissed.

Post Lunch, Jaiswal partnered with captain Shubman Gill. He survived an LBW decision after Brydon Carse had overstepped. With Gill looking in good touch, the left-hander was happy to bide his time. He eventually reached his half-century off 96 balls, having struck 8 boundaries.
He continued to chip in with runs in the 2nd sessions, building a fine partnership with captain Gill. Jaiswal reached his century in 144 balls. It was his 3rd century against Stokes’ side. He became the 5th Indian to score a century in England in their first game.

Jaiswal did not have the best of times batting for India in the practice games, but he nailed his role come the IND vs ENG 1st Test. It comes on the back of a successful debut series in Australia. The left-hander was the highest run-getter for India, scoring 391 runs including a match winning century in Perth.
Jaiswal struggled with cramps on his arm late in the 2nd session. He braved that, kept his concentration to reach three figures in style. Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar was full praise of the left-hander after Lunch on Day 1.
“This performance doesn’t surprise me at all. Jaiswal was India’s best batter in Australia. He was the only one consistent throughout the series, showing a solid defensive technique—playing close to the body, going deep in the crease, and handling anything pitched up, especially from someone like Mitchell Starc. He knows his Test game well,” Manjrekar said on JioStar.
