Are we finally headed back to the Holy Land? At least, that is what the latest industry gossip seems to suggest since Ubisoft is apparently working on a complete remake of the first 2007 Assassin’s Creed. This speculation got more traction as a well-known French YouTuber j0nathan supported recent rumors.
Ubisoft is Reportedly Working on an Original Assassin’s Creed Remake
Although, as per Insider gaming, Tom Henderson originally hinted at a secret second remake project of Ubisoft apart from the widely speculated Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remaster, j0nathan pointed out that this mysterious game is indeed the original game series’ very foundation.
Released in 2007 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the first Assassin’s Creed was a major technical milestone. It essentially defined the modern AAA open-world formula and firmly established Ubisoft as an industry titan. However, fans have long debated why the publisher seemingly abandoned Altaïr’s debut adventure for nearly two decades, especially while showering its immediate sequel, Assassin’s Creed II, with constant attention and re releases.

Why a Remake Makes Sense Now
The general reasoning regarding the long wait time is due to the fact that the technical nature of the original game itself meant that a cheap remaster was impossible. What’s more, the stealth and combat design elements from 2007 don’t hold up well at all by today’s standards, which means that a complete and expensive remake is the only viable course of action.
Then, what has changed? After some internal restructuring at the company, Ubisoft can probably count on needing games that will make money with little risk involved. This is perhaps why a high-profile remake of one of its most beloved titles might be just the ticket.
