Grinding Gear Games has revealed its upcoming expansion, Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame, launching on July 24 PDT. Players will join Captain Valerie and navigator Vesper to explore the ocean floor aboard a specialized vessel.
Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame – Brave the Sunken Abyss
Exiles will travel to the sea floor using the Allflame-powered Bathysphere. Survival requires deploying Allflame Lanterns to keep hostile ocean creatures at bay. Players can harvest Dead Man’s Sulphur during these timed encounters. This resource fuels a new split-outcome crafting system on The Sovereign.
Plot Rewarding Sea Voyages
Completed expeditions generate Charts for the Voyage Board. Players can link up to nine Charts to customize risk and reward. These layouts grant unique map modifiers, transform loot, or unleash powerful spirits. Shifting Corruption Currents will dynamically alter adjacent charts, rewarding strategic experimentation. Deep-sea exploration also yields rare Ducats. These ancient artifacts grant exclusive item duplication, attribute shifting, or divine aspects.

Command Mercenary Allies
The Mercenaries of Trarthus return as a permanent core feature starting in Act 3. Defeating these warriors lets players temporarily recruit them. High-tier maps drop Warrants to summon them later or trade them.
The Scion class receives the brand-new Luminary Ascendancy. This class focuses entirely on permanently hiring, equipping, and directing Mercenary companions.
Revamped Endgame Systems
Legacy mechanics receive massive overhauls inspired by Path of Exile 2.
- Abyss: Encounters now trigger instantly from open pits, eliminating tedious backtracking. It serves as the exclusive source for Abyssal Jewels and Stygian Vises.
- Legion: Combat starts automatically when enough high-value targets are freed. New Enshrouding Crystals allow transferring unique modifiers between armor pieces.
- Talismans: Reintroduced as Bestiary rewards featuring powerful new enchantments.
- Atlas Anomalies: Strange, self-contained zones manifest via Voidstones. These offer direct access to specialized mechanics like Cadiro Perandus without consuming maps.
Core Gameplay Adjustments
Equipment sockets are completely reimagined. Players can now place any skill gem color into any linked socket. Gem quality now provides socket color benefits instead. Spellcasters receive massive balance updates, stronger caster staves, and new Exceptional Skill Gems called Pacts. These grant immense spell power in exchange for demonic afflictions.
Two new cosmetic supporter packs, Plague and Remidus, will launch alongside the expansion. All included microtransactions transfer fully to Path of Exile 2.
