A new leak claims Metroid Prime 5 is already in development for Nintendo Switch 2, with a potential release targeted for 2027.

New leak reveals that Metroid Prime 5 might be under development for Nintendo Switch 2. This new piece of information is surprising, given the fact that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was not very well received by gamers due to its poor commercial and critical success.

However, even though the company hasn’t yet confirmed or denied the rumors about Metroid Prime 5’s development, this leak has generated much discussion about the sci-fi series.

Retro Studios Allegedly Working on Metroid Prime 5 Alongside Prime 4

The current update comes from Spanish Nintendo source Nash Weedle, who says that work on Metroid Prime 5 was underway at Retro Studios even as Metroid Prime 4 was being developed.

Should the update prove to be true, then it means that the studio is running on a parallel development schedule that could see Nintendo release the game earlier than people expected. According to the update, there is an unofficial release date set for 2027. This would be far too short a time between two releases than has previously been experienced in the franchise.

In other words, this would imply that Nintendo must have planned well into the future when it comes to this particular video game franchise.

Unlike Metroid Prime 4, which reportedly launched as a cross-generation title, the rumored sequel is said to be designed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

According to the leak, the development team is focusing on features that take full advantage of the console’s capabilities. Reports mention new control systems and enhanced aiming mechanics that could improve the first-person gameplay experience.

What the Leak Could Mean for the Franchise

A shorter development process might give Nintendo the opportunity to adopt a regular release strategy for the Metroid game series. It should be noted that the Metroid games have long breaks between their releases, so the possibility of a 2027 release is significant.

The speculation proves that the Japanese video game developer still believes in the success of the Metroid series despite any difficulties. The commitment to developing another installment of the Metroid franchise indicates its importance as an action-adventure video game series.
