Grand Theft Auto 6 could be released with an additional surprise condition for gamers in Australia and potentially in the UK. With the emergence of new laws regarding age verification and online safety, gamers will have to confirm their age through their government ID such as a driver’s license or passport prior to accessing the game.
Despite the fact that Rockstar Games has not verified the necessity of the age verification system for Grand Theft Auto 6, the latest information suggests otherwise.
GTA 6 Players in Australia Have to Go Through Tough Age Verification Rules
Online age verification laws have been recently enhanced in Australia, with their coverage broadened not only to social media but also to online games.
As GTA 6 is highly likely to be rated as R18+, Rockstar might need to perform age verification of Australian users to gain access to both the solo mode of the game and its future online components.
There are hefty penalties attached to non-compliance with such laws. According to reports by Mirror.co, there might be fines of up to $49.5 million in case of serious violations of such legislation by businesses.
Age verification is currently being performed for GTA Online in Australia, thus, GTA 6 is very likely to follow this example.

UK Could Introduce Similar Measures
The players in the United Kingdom could witness a similar scenario in the future.
The UK government has recently adopted online safety laws which are based on the laws of Australia. Although currently the video games are governed by other set of laws, the lawmakers have considered introducing more protective measures for young players, including the prohibition of using online communications functions.
It was also reported that the data miners found some mentions of age verification system associated with the users of the United Kingdom within the backend services of Rockstar.
With all these measures put in place, players in those regions might be requested to provide proof of their age before playing GTA 6. Such proof might require the upload of a government-issued identification or any other approved form of age verification.
These critics say that such forms of age verification might be circumvented, but others argue that they reduce the likelihood of minors accessing age-restricted material.
As of right now, Rockstar Games has not disclosed whether the process of providing identification is mandatory when GTA 6 is launched.
