However, while gamers are excited about their next-generation experience of playing Vice City and the state of Leonida by Rockstar Games, there is one other major concern that is dominating everyone’s mind right now. How much storage space will GTA 6 require?
GTA 6 File Size Rumors to Be Massive Install Size
While there are no official estimates as to the space needed for GTA 6, various sources indicate that the minimum space needed would be just short of 200 GB. Such a claim first emerged from an industrial insider and has since gained more popularity in the run-up to its release.
Given all the characteristics of the new installment, such as its massive open world, impressive graphics, realistic character models, and the use of modern technology, a total file size of almost 200 GB would be logical. The latest AAA games have continued increasing in size, and GTA 6 may very well represent Rockstar’s most ambitious project yet.
There have been some rumors in the last year or so about how GTA 6 might actually need more than 600GB of storage space. The information came after an alleged image from the Xbox Store became viral on social media. It turned out to be a hoax though, with no real evidence from any platform store listings.
For comparison, even the largest modern games rarely exceed 300 GB after multiple years of updates and expansions. A launch size above 600 GB would be unprecedented for the industry.

Why the Final Size Could Change
But even assuming these numbers end up being right, gamers should not forget that there is always the possibility of further changes before the game comes out. The developers will be refining it all the way through production, and there might still be changes to its size.
This is because there can be day-one updates that will require more space on the disk drive.
