The wait for the so-called “Anime GTA” is almost over. Chinese media reports have confirmed that Ananta (previously called Project Mugen) will launch its first Closed Beta Test (CBT) in 2026.
The game is being developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase Games. It has quickly become one of the most highly anticipated open-world RPGs because of its beautiful graphics and exciting city-life gameplay.
What is Ananta? A Fusion of GTA, Spider-Man, and Genshin Impact
Ananta is a free-to-play open-world RPG set in a large modern city called Nova Inception Urbs. Players take on the role of an “Infinite Trigger,” a special investigator with supernatural abilities. Your job is to keep the peace in a city filled with urban legends and strange paranormal events.
The game is getting attention because it combines elements from different popular games:
- Fast and Fun Movement: Similar to Spider-Man, players can swing between buildings using grappling hooks and perform parkour moves. There is no stamina limit, so movement feels smooth and unlimited.
- A Realistic, Living City: The city feels alive with realistic NPCs, a full day-and-night cycle, and many interactive elements. You can drive taxis, pet cats, play arcade games, and interact with many objects—even during combat.
- Action-Packed Combat: The fighting system is fast and dynamic. You can use objects around you, like trash cans or golf clubs, as weapons. Players can also switch between four different characters during battle.
In a surprising shift for the genre, reports from major media like Famitsu indicate that Ananta will not follow a traditional gacha model for its characters. Instead, all characters are expected to be obtainable through gameplay and progression. The game’s revenue will reportedly focus on cosmetic monetization, including character skins, vehicle customizations, and house decorations.
