Germany vs USA: International Friendlies – GER vs USA – Germany on Saturday won 3-1 against the United States of America in a friendly at the Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Goals from Ikay Gundogan, Niclas Fullkrug and Jamal Musiala secured the win for the Germans.
Germany started their life under Julian Nagelsmann as they continue their preparation for their home European Championship next year. The former Bayern Munich manager took over from Hansi Flick, who was let go after a run of five games without a win, culminating in a 4-1 friendly defeat to Japan. Nagelsmann made five changes from the team that Voller named in the win over France in September. Hummels, Gosens, Gross, Musiala and Fullkrug all came in, with Sule and Muller starting on the bench. Serge Gnabry and Benjamin Henrichs were both out injured, while Emre Can was left out of the squad.

Contrary to Germany’s situation, the USA team are on a roll. They have recently won the CONCACAF Nations League in June this year. Following that win, they were making good progress in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. However, their journey ended as they lost against Panama on penalties in the semi-final. Interim manager B. J. Callaghan did an amazing job in the meantime. However, the World Cup coach Gregg Berhalter came back after a sabbatical and helped the team win their last 2 friendlies.
After winning the CONCACAF Nations League in June, the USA came close to being able to defend their CONCACAF Gold Cup the following month, only to fall short as they lost the semi-final to Panama on penalties. Berhalter made four changes to the side that beat Oman in their last match. Turner started in goal, with Ream, Scally and Reyna, who is fit enough to start after injury, also brought in. Horvath, Robinson and Lund all dropped to the bench, while Malik Tillman had to withdraw from the squad due to injury.
USA drew the first blood early on when Christian Pulisic scored a beautiful goal with his right foot. However, their lead was short-lasting as Ikay Gundogan scored for the Germans.
Germany increased their intensity in the second half and was rewarded swiftly. Niclas Fullkrug gave Germany the lead with a clinical finish before Jamal Musiala increased the lead.
