AESF President Lauds India’s WAVES Initiative, Commends ESFI for Successful WESC Execution

AESF President Lauds India’s WAVES Initiative, Commends Esports Federation of India (ESFI) for the successful execution of the inaugural WESC.

 In a strong endorsement of India’s growing influence in global esports, AESF President, Mr. Santi Lothong, has praised the country’s visionary WAVES initiative and commended the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) for the successful execution of the inaugural WAVES Esports Championship (WESC).

AESF President Lauds India’s WAVES Initiative

Organised by ESFI during WAVES (an initiative by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting), which was held in Mumbai from 1st – 4th May this year, WESC marked a major milestone for Indian esports, hosting international competition on home soil and securing the country’s first-ever gold medals in global esports competition. The championship earned recognition for its professional execution, strong athlete turnout, and alignment with India’s national vision for digital empowerment and youth engagement through sport.

AESF President Mr. Santi Lothong, speaking at the 5th AESF Executive Board Meeting in Bangkok, praised the initiative: “The Waves Esports Championship is a remarkable reflection of India’s commitment to nurturing digital excellence and empowering its youth through the power of esports. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has emerged as a driving force in integrating technology with sport, paving the way for innovation, inclusion, and international collaboration.

Heartfelt congratulations to the Electronic Sports Federation of India (ESFI) for the successful completion of WESC and for securing India’s first-ever gold medals in an international esports championship. This achievement is a proud moment not just for India, but for the entire Asian esports community. The Asian Electronic Sports Federation stands firmly in support of such initiatives that celebrate competitive excellence while advancing the shared vision of a sustainable and inclusive esports future and youth engagement across Asia.” he further added.

WESC was a key component of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), WESC offers an exceptional platform to showcase innovation, foster talent, and shape the future of esports in India. 

“This recognition from AESF reinforces India’s emergence as a serious esports nation,” said Lokesh Suji, Vice President of South Asia, AESF, and Director, ESFI. “WESC proved to the world what India can achieve when talent, vision, and institutional support align. We thank the Government of India, our partners, and especially the athletes for making this historic success possible.”

Besides successfully organising WESC, ESFI has fielded Indian athletes at global events such as the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Esports Championship, and the WEC over the last years, underlining its commitment to building a high-performance, globally competitive esports ecosystem.
