T20 World Cup 2024 in focus, Arshdeep Singh readies new delivery to stun lefties

T20 World Cup 2024 in focus, Arshdeep Singh readies new delivery to stun lefties

Having faced criticism for his inconsistencies, Arshdeep Singh is developing a new delivery to pass T20 World Cup 2024 audition.

If his swing wasn’t enough, Arshdeep Singh has sent warnings to left-hand batters. He has developed a new delivery with T20 World Cup 2024 in focus. With the West Indies and USA wickets likely to be on the slower side, the young left-arm pacer is ready with a new weapon in the arsenal that will move away after pitching like a leg-cutter on slower surfaces. He has his final audition in the bowlers’ graveyard M Chinnaswamy Stadium in IND vs AFG 3rd T20 before IPL 2024.

“I have been working on a new ball, which will be beneficial on slower wickets. I tried that ball in the last match against the lefties, the ball that moves away after pitching like a leg-cutter. The aim is to develop more confidence and use that ball more in matches,” Arshdeep Singh said at the pre-match press conference ahead of IND vs AFG 3rd T20.

T20 World Cup 2024 Audition

IND vs AFG T20 series will officially end the preparations for India Cricket Team in the international circuit. And even though India have sealed the series 2-0 with ease, the third T20 will be more or less a testing ground for the likes of Arshdeep Singh. IPL 2024 will be next for him after Ranji Trophy. With two tournaments left before the T20 World Cup 2024, Arshdeep Singh is not leaving anything to chance.

“It’s not as if it’s a 2-0 score or the series is done. That’s not our aim. Our aim is to improve our game one-two percent after every game and develop new skills,” Arshdeep Singh said.

Rohit Sharma’s return to T20Is has been abysmal with two ducks in two IND vs AFG matches.

Arshdeep Singh: Dropping inconsistent tag

However, with competition for spots set to get tougher, Arshdeep will be aiming to drop the inconsistent tag. Despite a fine start to international career, the 24-year-old has had too many ups and downs. He began 2023 with 2/37 against Sri Lanka in just two overs and ended the year with 4/30 against South Africa in an ODI.

So far in IND vs AFG T20 series, Arshdeep Singh has bagged three wickets at an economy rate of 7.50. The aim is now to improve. He will be competing for a place in India squad for T20 World Cup 2024 against the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar apart from Avesh Khan.

“It’s been a mixed bag in these last 12 months. There have been good performances, some average ones. I’d say that I have learned a lot and that experience is helping my game get a lot better. I am quite grateful that I am getting this experience, I have been getting a lot of backing from the support staff, from the team. I just want to reduce the ups and downs and be more consistent with my performances and get better results for my team,” Arshdeep Singh said.
