Suryakumar Yadav set to break Virat Kohli’s T20I record for India

Suryakumar Yadav has a golden chance to add another record to his already impressive T20 CV, by going past none other than Virat Kohli

Suryakumar Yadav has a chance to etch his name in record books in the upcoming three-match T20 series against South Africa. India’s stand-in-captain has a golden chance to go past Virat Kohli’s record of the fastest Indian batter to reach 2000 T20I runs in fewer innings. Currently, Surya has scored 1985 runs in 55 innings and requires just 15 runs in the first T20I against the Proteas to go past Kohli’s record of scoring 2000 runs in 56 innings.

Pakistan’s dynamic duo Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan occupy the first and second spot by taking just 52 innings to reach 2000 T20I runs. Among India’s batters, Kohli leads the way and is currently in third position. Apart from the Indian captain, only KL Rahul (58), & Rohit Sharma (77) innings are the Indian batters to feature in the list of fastest to reach 2000 T20I runs.

Suryakumar has a golden chance to not only join this elite list but also go past Kohli’s long-standing record of fastest Indian batter to reach 2000 T20I runs.

Suryakumar Yadav – beast in T20I format for India

Undoubtedly, Suryakumar is a beast in the shortest format of the game. Ever since making his debut against England in 2021, the 33-year-old has gone on to dominate opponents with his 360-degree batting. Not only the wide array of shots, but SKY also boasts of the best strike among the batters who have scored a minimum of 1000 runs in T20I. Currently, India’s stand-in captain’s strike rate is 171.71.

In 58 T20Is, the right-hand batter has scored 16 fifties and 3 centuries. His average of 44.11 is the second-best among the Indian batters. Surya’s ability to change the game within a blink of an eye, and win matches singlehandedly for India, makes him a must-have in the team in the shortest format of the game.
