Shaheen Afridi wishes David Warner best luck, issues big warning to Aussie opener

David Warner, who is all set to retire after the Test series against Pakistan, has received special message from Shaheen Afridi

David Warner is facing a lot of flak for getting a farewell Test series for Australia in the upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan. Mitchell Johnson heavily came down on Cricket Australia for sending the Aussie opener in style. However, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi praised Warner for having a great career but also had a message to the veteran player of not scoring runs against his team.

Shaheen Shah Afridi (Via CA): “David Warner had a great career. He played very good cricket for Australia, not only in T20 but across all three formats, and he is a wonderful guy. I think this is his last series, and I hope that it is not very good against us.”

For the unversed, Warner wished to retire from Test cricket after playing at the end of Summer Australian cricket earlier in 2023. The Aussie opener had a dismal Ashes prior to the Test series against Pakistan, and questions were raised about whether the Aussie opener deserved a farewell. The 37-year-old, who made his Test debut for Australia in 2010, has gone on to play 100 Test matches and has amassed over 8000 Test runs.

Incidentally, it is the longest format of the game that Warner has had a telling impact for Australia. The Southpaw’s ability to bat aggressively, and take the game away in the first session of the Test drew parallels to Virender Sehwag’s style of play. Warner’s Test strike rate is 71, which is best for an Aussie batter. The 37-year-old also has a pleasant experience playing the last Test series against Pakistan in 2021, where he scored his first-ever triple-century.

Warner would be hoping to cap off his Test career with another memorable performance and would love to shut his critics by letting his bat do all the talking.
