Kolkata Knight Riders’ top scorer in the IPL 2024 final, Venkatesh Iyer, and their highest wicket-taker in the season, Varun Chakravarthy, have not credited KKR’s mentor Gautam Gambhir or captain Shreyas Iyer but their assistant coach for helping them claim their 3rd IPL title.
Nayar built KKR’s Indian core, says Varun
After their incredible thrashing of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chakravarthy said, “All I can think right now is of the person who built this Indian core: Abhishek Nayar. He also asked his assistant coach to get some plaudits and called him for the interview, “Please come here.”
Ventakesh Iyer, who scored an unbeaten 52 in just 26 balls, echoed the same. In his post-match interview, he said, “Really happy with it. As Varun mentioned, Abhishek Nayar deserves all the credit in the world. Some contributions go unnoticed; I want to make sure they don’t.”
