Road to 3rd IPL title: How KKR scaled the peak after 10 long years

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a huge 8-wicket margin to lift their 3rd IPL title

Kolkata Knight Riders have done it. For the third time in history and after 10 years, Shreyas Iyer and co. have lifted the IPL title after crushing SRH in a one-sided contest. One of the most consistent sides, KKR have arguably been the best team, from finishing on top of the table to lifting the trophy.

KKR bowlers managed to restrict batters to just 113 runs in 20 overs. Opting to bat first, SRH’s top-order faltered, with their trailblazing opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma failing to fire. Andre Russell, Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana wreaked havoc on the SRH batters. In reply, KKR secured a convincing 8-wicket victory in just 10.3 overs.

The best for KKR in IPL 2024

Sunil Narine has arguably been the most valuable player for KKR, shining with both bat and ball. The West Indies star has aced his role of an opener, amassing 482 runs in IPL 2024. In the bowling department, Harshit Rana has been a fine find for KKR, with 19 wickets to his name. An seemingly out-of-form Varun Chakravarthy stormed back to form in the latter stage of IPL 2024, finishing second on the Purple Cap standing with 21 wickets to his name.

How could KKR have fared better?

Despite being one of the most consistent sides in IPL 2024, KKR had their own fair share of downs, with some key players not living up to the expectations. Mitchell Starc, IPL’s richest buy, had a dismal start to the season, getting smashed all around the ground. However, he staged an epic comeback in the latter half of the tourney, delivering when it mattered the most for the teams.

Another spectacle that fans couldn’t get to witness was Andre Russell’s carnage. The Caribbean batter failed to go all guns blazing in IPL 2024, thereby failing to create the impact he is known for. Venkatesh Iyer too had a bad start in the season but managed to recover in the latter half, playing a match-winning knock in the final against SRH.

KKR’s lowest of lows in IPL 2024

Despite having the firepower that helped then finish most games, two particular players failed to shine. KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer had a miserable tournament, making almost zero impact for the side with the bat. Another star who didn’t make any impact for KKR is their star finisher Rinku Singh.
