VVS Laxman is the current head of BCCI's CEO, and him taking up the role of CSK head coach looks unlikely at the moment.

It was only a few days back, that CSK relieved coach Stephen Fleming of his duties ahead of IPL 2027. That meant, he served as the head coach for 18 years. Now, the biggest question in the minds of the CSK fans is, who would take over the role from the Kiwi? Former India opener Sadagoppan Ramesh has picked his ‘ideal’ candidate for the job.

New suggestion for CSK head coach comes up

While a few names have already come up, Ramesh wants CoE chief VVS Laxman to take over the role. As per him, the latter has all the attributes, that will make him an excellent coach at the franchise. “Many names are being mentioned as Fleming’s replacement. While options are aplenty, VVS Laxman is the best candidate to take over as CSK’s head coach. Among the three main reasons why he will work as CSK coach, the first is that he is a fantastic person,” Ramesh said in an Instragram video.

“He will be like a big brother to everyone in the team and take them to the next level. The CSK management has always looked at the team like a family. Such a wonderful culture will only get enhanced if Laxman becomes the head coach,” added Ramesh.

Ashwin wants MS Dhoni

He further gone on to say, that Laxman possesses wealth of experience in coaching as well, and often takes up the role of an interim coach as well with Team India. “He also has coaching experience at the highest level, having worked as India’s interim head coach several times when Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir were unavailable.

But then, among the experts too, there seems to be lack of consensus, as to who should become Chennai coach. In an interview with Cricinfo, Ashwin clarified, if ready to take the role, there is no better person than MS Dhoni. “If Dhoni is willing to do that, there is no better person that Chennai Super Kings can go after,” Ashwin said. If not Dhoni, then “…they need to find someone who will be able to operate independently and take accountability for his or her own actions,” he said.
