Special camp for Mayank Yadav ahead of IND vs BAN T20Is

While Mayank Yadav can be in contention for the IND vs BAN T20I series, he is however in line to get a callup in the India vs New Zealand Test series.

“Mayank hasn’t complained of any pain over the last month or so. He is bowling full tilt at the NCA. The selectors are interested to see how ready he is for international cricket. With the long Test season ahead, the selectors are keen on trying new faces for the T20Is against Bangladesh. Pandya has not played competitive cricket for nearly a couple of months. Even Abhishek needs some quality practice,” a source told The Times of India.

It is believed that the NCA plans of helping Mayank Yadav make a comeback from his injury. The NCA claims on keeping Mayank ready for the shortest format of the game. This in turn has made Mayank being not ready to play for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy.

“Mayank is bowling close to 20 overs with the white ball in three separate spells in a day. There is a strong chance of selectors picking him for the Bangladesh series after seeing him in the camp at the NCA. Agarkar is slated to travel to Bengaluru to attend the inauguration of the new NCA,” the source added.

Mayank can get his chance under the sun with the BCCI Selectors likely to rest some of the key players from the T20I series. The Test players will be rested for the upcoming NZ Test series. This means in absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh will lead the pace attack and Mayank can be a part of the squad.

Callup for IND vs NZ Tests?

As for red ball cricket, Mayank isn’t in line to play Ranji Trophy. On the other hand, it is believed that the selectors are likely to ask Mayank to travel with the India Cricket Team squad for the Test series against New Zealand.

“The selectors don’t want him to be restricted to just the T20 format. Therefore, they want to carefully monitor his progress. India head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel rate Mayank highly since their time at Lucknow Super Giants,” the source concluded.
