KKR vs MI, IPL 2026: Kolkata register 4-wicket win, stay alive in playoffs race

There you go. KKR have lodged a win, and they are still alive in the competition. Rinku finishes things off with a six. Kolkata must be a very happy team as they have won 6 in last 7 matches.

Tejasvi gets another lucky four here. Corbin keeps it outside off and Dahiya edges it. Now, he decides to go for a scoop, and Rickelton and Chahar collide. Deepak Chahar is down, but the catch is taken.

Allah Ghazanfar has a wicket here. Powell tries to cut hard, the ball is flying through point. But Corbin Bosch plucks the catch out of thin air. Concussiob sub Tejasvi Dahiya comes into the middle.

And finally, Bumrah has his 4th wicket of the season. Can you believe this, 4th wicket in 13 matches. The ball darts back into the stumps sharply, and Pandey is bowled for 45 from 33.

This performance, and the show throughout the season will put a question mark on the combination they have gone with. They should be looking to make a few changes for sure.

MI are going nowhere with this bowling. The focus is on curtailing runs rather than picking wickets. 50 partnership also comes up between Powell and Pandey.

Raghu Sharma will be entrusted with the responsibility of getting wickets here. Has been bowling well in the tournament. Good over comes to an end.

Pandya comes into the attack. He comes into the 10th over; Economical overs won't make much of a difference to Mumbai Indians.

If MI don't get wickets from here on, at least a couple in the next two overs, consider this match done for them. KKR look like the stronger side now, for sure.

Bosch comes for his second over and instantly removes Cam Green for 4. The big man eyes the midwicket boundary, but is caught. Another over ends well.

Spin introduced and Allah Ghazanfar comes into the attack. It is an excellent over to start with. Just three runs, but Kolkata still in a comfortable position.

Corbin Bosch comes into the attack and is greeted with a four. The template continues -- boundary and a single. MI are in desperate need of wickets. Out. Out of no where, Rahane tries to drive a good length ball, edges to the keeper.

Manish Pandey is showing why he has a superior record against Bumrah. He hits him for a four and then sneaks out a single. This is good batting in the context of the match.

Slow start for KKR as the MI pacers have been on the money. Chahar almost had Rahane trapped in front of the wicket as well. Another wicket in the powerplay and they'll be in the game.

After two boundaries, Chahar roars back by cleaning Allen. A similar ball, back of the length, outside off. However, Allen edges it back to his stumps this time. Chahar mocks the chit celebrations that are all the buzz in the IPL these days.

Ramandeep Singh has replaced Angkrish Raghuvanshi as a concussion substitute. The reason being that dropped catch, where he collided with Varun Chakaravarthy.

As expected, MI is using Allah Ghazanfar as the impact sub with Rohit Sharma going out. Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar will start with the new ball.

Spinners went 5.22 overs per over, but for some reason Rahane didn't bowl Anukul Roy after he kicked things off. Mind you, MI had just 1 lefty in the middle and Roy could've bowled after he was dismissed in the 14th over. Still, KKR will be happy to restrict MI to 147.

Valuable runs from Deepak Chahar and Corbin Bosch. The two bowling all-rounders know it's they who have to defend these runs. Bosch has scored 29 off 16, including 2 sixes and 1 four in the first 3 balls of the last over.

It's going from bad to worse. Pandya was struggling against Narine and the bowler finally gets the better of him. A lovely off-break that pitches just outside off and hits the middle. Pandya was late and by the time his bat came down, the stumps were a mess.

Tejasvi Dahiya has taken over the gloves as Angkrish leaves the field with a finger injury on his left hand.

Tilak's struggle finally ends. He had scored just 1 boundary in 32 balls and his strike rate was 62.50. Perhaps him getting out might be what MI needed as Will Jacks walks in with 6.2 overs remaining. 

Tilak has scored just 20 off 31. Yes, there's help in the surface but this is one of the worst performances of the season by a batter.

What has Angkrish Raghuvanshi done here? Tilak toe ends the ball high into the air and the keeper comes running despite the ball being just a bit left to Varun. The spinner isn't 100% but can still take a few steps. He takes the catch but Angkrish comes in running and slams into Varun, who shells it after the keeper collides into him.

Narine is putting on a spin masterclass. There's a slip in place and Rahane even put a short leg for Pandya. The ball is spinning big and he's beaten Tilak and Pandya twice with unplayable nuts. It's quite something.

Varun Chakaravarthy will bowl his first over of the day. And one feels bad to watch him bowl today, as he's hobbling. It's not the best look for KKR or the BCCI that he's playing today.

Despite a 1-hour delay, the match will restart at 9:15, no overs have been lost. KKR will be pleased, considering they have the upper hand at the moment.

KKR players are warming up. Clear signs that we aren't far away from play resuming. The stumps have been erected as well. But we don't have the official word yet.

The groundstaff are removing the covers and the umpire's will inspect the pitch soon. 

Doesn't look like it's raining anymore. No umbrellas for the umpires and all the players are out there. But the covers remain on. At least for now.

A reminder that if the match is washed out, KKR will be eliminated from IPL 2026. They need to win, not just for 2 points but for their NRR, which is in the negative at the moment.

Out of nowhere, rain arrives at Eden Gardens. The groundstaff hurry to cover the pitch. It's coming down hard at the moment. The entire ground has been covered. Let's hope it's a passing shower.

Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma are trying to put pressure back on the bowlers but so far, it isn't working. There's spin and it seamed earlier. It isn't an easy pitch for batters and the KKR bowlers have made full use of the help from the surface.

Great start for Suryakumar Yadav. An straight drive to get off the mark against Green. Followed by a wayward delivery on the leg stump, why SKY guides to fine leg. Dubey also bowls at his leg and he pulls out his signature pickup shot over fine leg. He's 15 off 5 and looks at his best after a long time. 

What an anti-climatic end. After looking like a million bucks, he chops one on back to his stumps. Dubey's ploy to bowl from over the wicket works as he seams the ball away from SKY while he goes for the drive without moving his feet.

It's going from bad to worse for MI. Dubey had Rohit in trouble from ball one. A scoop six from Rohit proved to be an aberration. The left-arm quick bowled full ball, a cutter, outside off and Rohit's eye lit up. He went hard at it but it took his edge and Cameron Green took a great catch while running towards his right from mid-on.

Green's extra bounce does Rickelton in. The southpaw goes for his favourite pickup spot as Green bowls from over the wicket but the ball jumps higher from the good length area. Leading edge goes high in the air and Manish Pandey takes a tough catch at cover-point.

Green continues to bowl well, testing Naman Dhir's outside edge a few times around the off stump. Then, he throws a full ball way outside off and Dhir goes for the cover drive. However, the ball moves away and he edges it to the keeper. The umpire doesn't give it out but the review proves him wrong.

Rahane decides to bowl spin, left-arm orthodox, against the MI openers. Anukul Roy almost had Ryan Rickelton those. Some tight lines and just 6 runs off the first over.

Meanwhile, Saurabh Dubey hits Rohit Sharma in the box. He's down on the ground in pain.

Varun Chakaravarthy is hobbling even during practice. To those asking why he's still playing with a hairline fracture in his leg, the BCCI Secretary has come out and said that the board doesn't manage the centrally contracted players during the IPL and basically has no power to bench them.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane has won the toss and opted to bowl first in Kolkata. No changes for KKR, who have won 4 of their last 5 matches. Rahane also stated that they aren't focusing too much on the playoffs and just want to play good cricket.

As for MI, Hardik Pandya has returned. Allah Ghazanfar, who missed the last game, has returned. Similarly, Suryakumar Yadav, the interim skipper, has come back into the team as well.

Rohit Sharma is back at one of his best hunting grounds. 

Hardik Pandya is training at the Eden Gardens. The question is will he play? He has travelled with the team, which is a positive sign.

Five teams are fighting for one remaining spot. Punjab Kings on 13, Rajasthan Royals on 14, Chennai Super Kings on 12, Delhi Capitals on 12, KKR on 11. The path for KKR is clear and specific. KKR's playoff hopes officially end for the second consecutive season under Rahane if they lose to MI.

There's one more layer. Even winning both games may not be enough on its own. KKR need to win well, not just win, to improve their NRR because if PBKS win their game, they will tie with KKR on 15 points. In that case, the final standings will come down to net run rate.

• Hope that PBKS lose to LSG. If they win, KKR must have to have a better NRR
• RR must lose their last match

Mumbai's batting hasn't been their problem this year. They chased 221 at Wankhede with ease in the reverse fixture. The bowling has been inconsistent all season. Jasprit Bumrah has failed to fire, while the entire pace bowling attack has looked clueless.

Quinton de Kock and Raj Bawa are both ruled out through injury for the rest of the season, which limits options, but Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and a potentially returning Hardik Pandya give them enough. Hardik could come back after recovering from a back spasm. MI are eliminated and playing freely. That's not always a comfortable thing to face.

KKR's turnaround has been one of the genuinely good stories of the second half. After five defeats in their first six games, Kolkata hit a low. But Green, Allen and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have turned things around.

However, KKR are not out of the woods. Varun Chakravarthy played the GT game with a hairline fracture in his left leg, which reportedly has not gone down well with the BCCI, and his availability tonight is uncertain. Matheesha Pathirana is also out of the KKR vs MI clash with a hamstring injury. Captain Ajinkya Rahane has been poor all season, which puts the burden of building an innings squarely on Allen, Green and Raghuvanshi. If those three don't fire, KKR won't post enough.

The quick outfield and flat surface have consistently favoured chasing sides at this venue through IPL 2026. Spinners have been effective in the middle overs here, which suits Narine and a potentially fit Chakravarthy for KKR and Ghazanfar for MI. Seamers get some early movement before it settles. After the sixth over, batting gets easier.

Humidity expected to climb from 76% at the start to nearly 91% by the second innings, with heavy dew under lights. Temperatures around 32 degrees at the toss, hot and sticky through the evening. No rain forecast. The dew makes bowling second genuinely difficult, which is why both captains will want to win the toss and field.

One of the most lopsided rivalries in IPL history. MI have won 25 of 36 meetings. KKR have 11. At Eden Gardens specifically, MI have won seven of 11 encounters. History, venue record and this season's reverse fixture all point the same way. In the reverse fixture, MI beat KKR by five wickets chasing 221, with Rohit's 78 off 38 and Rickelton's 81 off 43 making it look straightforward. KKR have no easy answers for a batting lineup that did that at Wankhede.
