KL Rahul returns to India, eyes IPL 2024 comeback after injury setback

KL Rahul has been out since IND vs ENG 1st Test with a quadriceps injury. He is close to recovery and will join LSG side for IPL 2024 soon.

After yet another injury setback, KL Rahul is now aiming for a full recovery soon before IPL 2024. The India batter could only play the IND vs ENG 1st Test before being ruled out. While it seemed he should be fine by the 3rd Test after complaining of pain in quadriceps, it turned out to be another long recovery period. However, Rahul has returned to India on Sunday after consulting specialist in London.

KL Rahul will continue his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Once he is declared fit, he will join Lucknow Super Giants pre-IPL camp.

“He had consulted top medical experts in London. He returned to India on Sunday and has checked into the NCA for rehab. KL should get the Return to Play certificate from the NCA soon,” TOI quoted a source as saying.

IPL 2024 & T20 World Cup

After an excellent ODI World Cup as the keeper-batter, he regained his spot in the India Test team with a sublime century in Centurion against South Africa. While he did not keep wickets in IND vs ENG 1st Test, he scored a crucial 86. But injury returned to haunt the batter once again.

Now, his target is to do well in IPL 2024 to force into India T20I side for T20 World Cup 2024.

KL Rahul is currently out of reckoning from T20Is. The Karnataka batter last played a T20I back in November 2022 in T20 World Cup semifinal against England. However, since then, he has not been considered. But a great IPL 2024 with the bat for Lucknow Super Giants could change things for KL Rahul.

He is keen to prove his worth in the IPL as he’s in line for selection in India’s T20 World Cup team as a ‘keeper-bat,” the TOI source added.

Lucknow Super Giants begin IPL 2024 campaign on March 24 against Rajasthan Royals.
