KKR vs PBKS Highlights: Punjab Kings record highest successful run chase in T20 history ft. Bairstow

Most sixes, highest successful run chase, first time 250 scored at the Eden Gardens, many records fell in Match 42 of the IPL 2024 season.

KKR vs PBKS Highlights: It’s a batter’s game! This phrase is getting truer by the day in IPL 2024. From 38 sixes hit in a match to 125 runs scored in the powerplay, records are getting tumbled left and right. But this one might be the best of them all. The Punjab Kings chased down a 262-run target set by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 18.4 overs. The total is the highest any team has chased down or scored in the second inning of a T20 match.

KINGS are destined to create history!

The name itself suggests that if this record were to fall, it would be in the hands of the Kings. The Knights, however good they were, stood no chance against the onslaught by the PBKS batters. They had 8 balls in the bank when they reached the target; who knows, they might have even broken the record for most runs scored in an IPL inning if they were allowed to go on.

Bairstow unleashes the beast

Prabhsimran Singh, Rilee Rossouw, and Shashank Singh played great innings, but it was Jonny Bairstow that got them home. Prabhsimran and Shashank both scored incredibly fast fifties, but it was Bairstow’s second IPL century that got them home. The Englishman got to his fifty in just 23 balls and needed 45 balls to reach his century. He ended the KKR vs PBKS match unbeaten with 17 boundaries (8 fours and 9 sixes).

IPL 2024

Most sixes in a T20 match

On March 27, 38 sixes were hit in the SRH vs MI match. The record for most sixes hit in a T20 match. A month later, that record no longer stands. The KKR vs PBKS clash has seen a whopping 42 sixes hit. That means just 252 runs were scored by maximums alone. KKR hit 18 sixes in the first inning, and PBKS smashed that record by hitting 24 sixes. It was also the most sixes hit in an IPL innings.

250 breached at the Eden Gardens for the first time

Eden Gardens has been hosting T20 matches since 2003, and the 250 runs have never been scored once. Today, that mark was breached twice. The home side, the Kolkata Knight Riders, scored 261 runs, courtesy of some fine knocks by Sunil Narine and Phil Salt. Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell played great cameos, getting them past the mark, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough today.
